The 4hi dash button on my 97 Jimmy doesn't engage the 4x4 transaxle. Nothing happens, no sound, no nothing. Is this a simple fix or should I take it to the dealer? (The 4Lo works fine.)

The Electronic Transfer case Case Encoder motor is defective.

Swap a working one in from a wreck in a pick and pull and you should be set.

I have the same problem on my 98 Jimmy, do you have to pull the front axle out to change the ecoder motor?

from what I have heard and seen, it should be a straight pull and replace.

I can't personally tell you from my actions seeing I have never done it on my particular truck.

Bolt on and plug connectors. Easy fix. $100 used at junk yards. $50-$100 on ebay. $400 at dealer.

I had the same problem. Someone on this forum suggested disconnecting the battery for about a half hour. It worked for me.

Keep an eye on it, the condition does come back after a while.
