I just did my 10k oil change using Mobil One 5w30. I made the move at 5K from the factory oil . Most people I have spoken to, including a local Honda Specialist, say that I am better off with Mobile One 5w3o then the new Honda 5W20. Do you guys agree? A friend of mine just had a local dealer scare him that not using 5w20 will shorthen the engine life and make for poor circulation at start up. I believe I made the right call with Synthetic 30 weight, but wanted to see what you guys think

well u kno what they say... the thicker the oil the better. im pretty sure at start up the 2 oils will be the same because they are both 5w.... well during the winter. after warm up i think the 5w30 would be better cuz its a lil thicker.

that is a myth u can mix if you reallyhave too it's ok to mix it's alll oil.
the only bad thing about sinthetic oil is the if you're gonna run it you should do it right from the begining because if you're car has 75k on it and you switch to synthetic you sill start to notice leakes in the oil seal because they are not used to the synthetic oil because it is much thiner than conventional oil.

What a bunch of BS! There's more crap quoted about oils than any other auto subject. The reality is that almost ANY oil can be used in ANY car (short of race cars) without major (or even any) damage. It's all about (a) gas mileage (b) climate where the car is used and (c) getting oil to the places it's supposed to go. IMHO 5w20 and 5w30 are essentially identical.

I've used Mobil 1 5W30 in my 99 since 5K and no leaks whatsoever, plus no problems whatsoever. Go with the Mobil. You're paying same price for synthetic as you would for conventional from Honda.

Beat if your Honda dealer offered a synthetic job for $55, they'd push for synthetic for your vehicle rather than the Honda oil job for $24.
