By the way, Racer 20 is the one who noticed the similarity. So now we're examining it. If you have a better fitting Z pic, please post it here.

Well, the GT-R doesn't look that bad. I could get used to it. It's coming out in 2003 right?

R35

Supposedly in 2003 for the US market under the Infinity badge. Supposedly! Nissan has yet to confirm any of this and no one knows for sure if this IS or IS NOT what the next version of the GT-R will look like. Hence why Igor made this post "R35 GT-R Pic photoshopped? ".

I think it is touched up, but at the same time feel that Nissan to save money will be using the Z chasis for the next GT-R and sell the Z at your local Nissan dealer and the GT-R with it's AWD, 4WS, TT, etc. at Infinity.

I agree that this CAR, doesn't look bad. It actually looks pretty nice. BUT NEVER will it have the standing of the current models (R32, R33, & R34) these models are true Skylines!

Seeing any of these 3 models even in stock form caused your knees to go weak and your head to bow down in awe.

If someone told me this was the next version of the Honda Prelude I would say "nice", tell me this is the next version of the Skyline GT-R and I shall fart in your general direction.:flamer:

Agreed! I mostly am a fanatic of the R33. I just like the body style and how aggressive it looks. Recently the R34 is starting to grow on me. *What I'd give to own a skyline!*sigh*

Well, regardless of what badge it get's, it's still a Skyline. Now as for the looks. I think that is definitely what it will look like since the 4dr version just looks like an extended version of that one. Plus the fact that they are stating that the 4dr is coming here as an Infinity, why wouldn't they look the same? you know.

Anywayz, bad ass car!!! I'd buy one.

Looks a bit like the new Q, so it's possible. I think the similarities between it and the Z are coincidental. It looks just as much like a TT from certain angles as it does a Z from others.

R35
07-09-2001, 03:38 PM
My wife freaked out when I told her I may not buy one when/if it got to the States.

I'm at a wait and see right now. Do I say NO to Nissan for leaving out the aggressive look and style of the Skyline and going with a more hohum looks like every other car design?! I guess now only the engine they choose and what options they keep will help with the final decision for me:( :)

As far as looking like a Q/Z/TT and brought to you by the Number 35:bloated: That's my biggest problem. The Skyline should look like a SKYLINE! NOT every other thing on the road.:flipa:

I guess it's not to bad a looking car but to me it lacks that "hit ya between the eyes" look that the R33-34 model has

Cursed Photoshop for whetting our appetites, but not satisfying. The situation of the Skyline's future this time around is exceptionally confusing. At this point, I feel the best thing to do is just sit back and forget about it all until the time is ripe. Perhaps this will save a few white hairs from sprouting. If Nissan doesn't come through, I will be more than ecstatic with their other various new models.

Of course its Photoshoped, Nissan havnt even built the car yet.
Infact I dont think the R35 base model is even at show car stage, let alone production ready.
All the pics Iv seen in car mags, with Info supplied from Nissan have shown clearly doctored images.

Are you guys familiar with those kinda pics at all? I mean if you believe it was a spy pic you must be out of this world.

Its an artists impression, done on computer. OF COURSE its Photoshopped! Thats how all (pretty much) of the pics at scoop, Mag-X, and J-Cars are done. Its a good representation too. They hit the XVL shape right on the button.

R35
07-13-2001, 02:27 PM
I think we all can agree that the photo's are "edited" via photoshop, paintbrush, artist, etc. Heck even the cover model's on 90% of the magazines out there are "touched up". Sorry guy's even Playboy does it:alien2:

So the question IS? IS the picture of the "next" R35/GT-R accurate? Ian is correct about the XVL. Those photo's were also called fakes, and yet it turned out to be 99% accurate.

I'm afraid that photoshop or not this is pretty close to what the next GT-R could look like.:(

I have a lot of trust in Danny Ngan from SCOOP!. I have bought many items from him personally and everything he reports is incredibly accurate. So when it comes from him, I think its true.

I do think that is the correct photo of the GTR. Its based off the XVL, and anyone who wants to say otherwise really is just dreaming.

I second that statement, R33.

If this is how the GT-R story goes, then I go elsewhere. With announced plans of Toyota rigging up for an upper-class, large displacement GT beast, who needs Nissan? Don't get me wrong, I've been a Nissan enthusiast as long as I can remember even before I owned a car, but you can all see that the company is in a huge slump. I'm not about to waste my money and effort trying to transform the next 'parts-bin' Skyline into something worthy of a genuine Nissan emblem.

I am a consumer. Therefore, I would naturally want the most from my money. There are companies out there that are financially secure, and have the capability of spending lavishly on R&D in the sportscar department, resulting in a truly well made masterpiece. Go ahead and buy your V35/R35/(insert letter)35.

Just be advised: when you see a gunmetal grey 4000/4500/5000GT Toyota locking onto your six, get ready to rumble! :D

Guess I'll be #3 on the "Just say NO to a cheap wanna be Skyline". Either way I'm waiting to see what comes out for 2003. As much as I'd like to stay true to the Skyline, there ARE other options out there.:finger:

that pic is a rendered artists impression of the R35 gtr based on the shape and styling of the V35 4 door nissan skyline sedans recently released in japan.

the R35 GTR is going to be release under a different name ie
its gonna drop the skyline and just be the GTR!! and its also rumoured to be aimed mainly at the european market since toyota is in the process of designing a supercar to compete against ferrari and lamboughini:evillaugh

I had better keep a camera with me in my car. More often than not, I've regretted not doing so when an S&M prototype (that's what my girlfriend calls them since they are all wrapped up in black sheeting) passes me by leaving me jawdropped. When I see anything remotely similar to the XVL chassis, you will all be the first to know. This time I'll be ready... and I'LL BE EXPECTING YOU, U.S. SKYLINE!!! Smile for the camera!

I'll be scouring the grounds of Arizona... I hope I don't turn into a drifter living off the cactii. :smoka:

I think the R&T shot as well as the picture in this forum are both generated. But of course, that doesn't mean that they WON'T look like that. So let's not keep our hopes up too high and think that something like the R34 GT-R will be making it here. Let's all accept the fact that an XVL-like vehicle will become our next Skyline.

You, see? Every periodical and internet gossip site now show the same or similar picture. So we must understand that the GT-R will be something along these lines.

But not to fret folks. I STILL think that the next Skyline will still be a superb grand tourer. We should think of it as 2 separate pieces: chassis and drivetrain.

Chassis:
The graphically rendered cars may look a little passive and a little weird, but underneath, the XVL chassis is really very revolutionary. It was originally born in the concept department, and unlike many conceptual projects, it was actually put to use. From what we have seen, the XVL is extremely versatile and should be considered a multipurpose platform, much like those from Volkswagon. It structures the new Z, new Altima, and new Skyline V35 sedan. This translates to a capability of being skinned with 2 or 4 doors. What also interests me is how different the sheetmetals are between the new Z and V35. If THAT much change can fit on one chassis, then the finalized production GT-R could potentially look like anything!

Drivetrain:
The multitude of upcoming Nissan models also prove that the XVL chassis can support front, rear, or all wheel-drivetrains, as well as transverse/longitudinal engine mounting. Once again, potentially, the next GT-R could still retain an all wheel-drive system, which is generally connected to a high performance engine. As for the engine, anything goes. The new VQs run smoothly and are capable of further development, and possibly turbocharging (well, maybe not in the States).

LOL! Exactly! Perhaps it will still feel like a Skyline. Even to the blind. :lol2:

And think about how people complained when they just changed the Maxima a little bit, with the weird rear end.

we are talking about the GTR here.. not V35..

Morpheus XIII
08-08-2001, 04:16 AM
Right. And if it doesn't come with the round lights, we can always jam two pairs of Maxima lights on em, or the real ones from the Skyline, if you have the money.

On a similar note:
Know what forced me do a double take? One dark night I thought I had passed my eyes on an R34's rear end on the road. Turns out it was the new model (at the time) Chevy Impala. What a way to screw with the poor human mind.

A little off topic but a few of the posts on page one said the Skyline is coming to the US

Yes this is true but it is the Skyline sedan not the 2 door GT-R
if the GT-R did make it to US shores under Nissan my guess is that it wouldbe sold by Nissan and not infinity

if you want to see what the Skyline that we are getting looks like go to www.freshalloy.com

R35
08-08-2001, 12:50 PM
Thanks focal, but I'm sure most (at least those who come here often) already knew that. www.freshalloy.com is a part of the AF community so I'm sure anyone who frequents here often has been to the site :D

BTW: Have to disagree with the idea that if the GT-R does make it to the states it will be sold under Nissan. Due to the price of the GT-R and the lack of a high end sports car in the line up. IMHO the GT-R will be sold under the Infinity name. Nissan will have the new Z and Infinity will get the GT-R. Also with the sedan coming state side chances are better that we will see a GT-R, question is "what" kind of GT-R?!

The most notable example of this would be the Honda NSX being sold under Acura in the states due to it's higher end price;)

Does a Skyline GT-R with an Infinity badge change things? No, if the car still performs like a GT-R, has the ability to crank out monster HP, AWD, and most of all the soul of the car we all love I don't care if they put a KIA badge on it!? Well ok maybe I would:D At least you can swap badges right;)

Actually, the next GT-R WILL have round taillights. And for those of you (including me) who were dissappointed with the V35 sedan's benign appearance, the GT-R WILL be much more visually menacing. For more information about the 35 series GT-R, read the article on this thread (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5277).

Yup I read it just last week, but I wasn't sure how much this guy knew what he was talking about when I saw this "hew to the current car’s twin-turbo V-6, all-wheel-drive, road-mauling formula." At the time I thought (and still think he is) he was talking about the R34 having a V-6:rolleyes: and so blew him off as another journalist without facts.

Of course after reading it a few more time's I might be able to convince myself into thinking he is talking about the the current V/G 35 and not the R34:rolleyes: or that he simply made a spelling error (V instead of I)

Oh well I'm still at the station waiting for the new ?35 GT-R to arrive. If she look's as mean as a Skyline GT-R should, I'll get down on my knee's and propose my undieing love and we is going to Vegas to get married Ya'll:ylsuper

R35 is telepathic.

I didn't think anyone else would pick up on that little detail about the "V-6", but you've done so, R35. At first, I too thought that he didn't know what he was talking about. Then I pondered for a moment: if I was exposed to as much automotive data as they are, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, then I would definately make that same mistake at some point, probably for some other car. I suppose it should be forgiven, since their journalists need to cover so much, while folks like us have our focused attentions on the Skyline much of the time.

To what I was formulating earlier about Nissan's XVL platform, and how the chassis is capable of so many variables, Altermoon's statement about the upcoming GT-R's design (if he does speak the truth) supports it well. And thank God it does. I think many would be sincerely dissapointed if the GT-R ended up looking like a 2-door GT, but we can rest assurred that all is well in the Nissan design department. After all, both the Skyline GT AND the new Z use the same XVL endoskeleton.

R35
08-10-2001, 09:03 PM
Well since he is delevering GOOD news, forgiven he shall be:D

Also the latest Car & Driver has a full page layout on the Skyline/G35 coming to the states. Also if you continue to read you will see news on the Toyota line-up, "GT4300", possible new Celica and Supra.

I noticed how the Supra design (front) reminds me of the last 300 ZX;)

Toyota's new GT: Now THAT is something to look forward to. No theorizing, no questions, no expectations--whatever the outcome, Toyota will amaze us. God knows how much money they made with their numerous new SUVs. Formula One activity. Bright, bright future. Funding is not a factor.
