Oil Pump failure

I have a 1996 Pathfinder with nearly 200k miles. Just 3 weeks ago I had the dealer change the timing belt (for the second time) and replace the camshaft seals etc. Since the day I picked it up it was making an unfamiliar noise from the front of the engine. The dealer told me it was the timing belt rubbing on the cover and I scheduled a time for them to take care of that. However in the meantime the oil pressure light came on. I had it towed to the dealer and they told me that the oil pump failed. I am wondering if it’s a coincidence or if perhaps it the oil pump failure may have been caused by something the mechanic did or didn’t do when replacing the timing belt. Anyone else ever have an oil pump fail?
