1990 E-150 Econoline Engine Racing at Start

My wife's Econoline has about 160,000 miles on it and runs great, the only thing is when it is first started up the engine races for about 30 seconds than slowly drops down to normal idle.
I cringe each time it is started because from what I have read most of the engine wear happens at startup.
The van has always done this from the day we bought it, we got it with 50,000 origional miles on it.
I never put a tach on it but I would guess that upon startup it must be about 1800 to 2000 RPM.
Should I be conserend at this time?
Thanks.
Bill

No, that is fairly typical for vehicles of this vintage.

Thanks, that is good to know, when I change oil I always fill the oil filter as much as I can so pressure will come up quicker.
