doors freezing in winter.FWRI 11-23-2004, 01:27 PM last winter was the 1st I had for my 99' Alero and the doors were frozen shut each morning, so that I had to pour warm water over the door seals to get into the car.How can I avoid this problem? (winter coming on again soon) can I get somthing to treat the seals to prevent it ? Anyone else had this problem? JTrujillo86 11-23-2004, 11:33 PM This happens to me almost every morning in the winter here in Denver. I just pull gently on the handle, because I don't want to break the handle off. It just takes practice I guess. I don't know what to do because when I first got my car, I had the door locks and the wether stripping lubricated. Anyone else know what to do? Jeremy ugsrich 12-11-2004, 09:44 PM I'd watch the warm water trick. Sudden change in temperature may cause things like glass to crack. Also, it's the water that's freezing. So, you are perpetuating the cycle. You may want to try drying the weather strip thoroughly - perhaps leave the doors open on a sunny day (don't worry about the temperature, just open them up so the water can evaporate. You may also want to try some silcon on the weather strip. GM recommends a specific product for this. I use a Silicon Spray that I squirt on and wipe uniform with a rag. DO NOT USE PETROLEUM LUBRICANTS on weather strip. Finally, when I do have the frozen door problem I carefully push inward on the door and the window frame. DO NOT PUSH IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DOOR YOU WILL DENT IT! Push inward along the edges of the door and the window frame. You may even here the ice being broken up. this will often loosen it sufficiently to allow the door to open without excessive force. Kouga 12-20-2004, 12:07 AM the silicone trick worx well. just put silicone oil spray on the dry door gasket. since i'm coming from germany i have had the same prob in the winter :) you can put this in your key cylinders, too to prevent them from freezin' for the case you do not want to rely on your remote control. here an example of silicone oil w/ description http://www.valvoline.com/pages/products/product_detail.asp?product=36 vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
