I just purchased a 93 LX Wagon, manual trans, 1.9 L engine with 126,000 miles for $800.00.

Everything seems to be in great mechanical shape although when I start off in 1st gear, it will pop out of gear sometimes. This probably happens 50% of the time

Also, if I come to a stop with the car still in 5th gear, it is hard to pull it down into neutral. It seems to be stuck in 5th. However, if I downshift or put the car in neutral before coming to a complete stop, everything works fine.

Any ideas?

i dunno much, but.. i have a 93 wagon too. with about 160k on the clock it started getting stuck in fifth gear. i could only get it out by clutching hard- ie, stalling the car, or downshifting without any gas. it was diagnosed as worn synchros, and i got a 120 dollar used transmission which has taken good care of me every since.

probably not helpful. i didnt have any trouble with 1st. good luck.

At this point I think you need a tranny
