Anyone's SL Nav unit sending them on a wild goose chase?

I am driving a 2004 SL55 and I swear if this Nav unit does this to me one more time I am going to smash it.

At times it works perfectly. Other times in certain areas it takes me on a wild goose chase. I know it is taking the the wrong way. It takes me off a highway and sends me through a city when I could have just stayed on the highway and gotten to the exact same place.

Is anyone else having this problem?

There are limits to how accurate the unit is depending on its database, when the database was created, etc. I know you are aware of that.
Having said that I have find it to be very good. It has never got "lost" so to speak and as long as it is receiving enough satilites ( I cannot remember the minimum necessary 3?) it works fine in my Sl600.

Is your car a 2005 which now has the DVD? The unit has never gotten me lost. That is not the problem. The problem is that in certain areas it just sends you off the highway and into the city.

The dealer says it can't be fixed.

I mean really, it is totally ridiculous. I am going on a highway. That highway connects to another highway and you can be there in a minute or less.

Instead this stupid unit, takes you off the first highway, sends you through a town with probably 10 turns and 15 minutes later puts you on the other highway when it you had never gotten off the first highway you would have been to that second highway 14 minutes ago.

So frustrating. Since it is the disc, I am not sure the DVD will solve the problem as the DVD disc is from the same company as the CD disc.

I was trying to find out if this was resolved in 2005 with the DVD upgrade.

My Sl600 is a 2004. Your data must be corrupt. If that is not the case they should replace the whole unit on Warranty, no??

I had the same problem with my 2003 SL500. It's the unit software or disc software, not sure. They replaced the unit on my 2003 and the problem persisted. I now have a 2004 SL55 and have the exact same problem.

I believe there is a "calibration" page on the unit. Do not know if that will help but you could check there. Strange that that should continue to happen especially after replacing the unit on your 2003. All I can say that I have not experianced this on my 04 SL600. Are there differences between US models and European models?

I have calibrated the unit.

Personally I believe it is the disc. The disc is what directs the software and there must be some sort of software glitch in the disc.

NavTech is the company that makes the discs in the US. What about the European models. Who makes those discs?
