Which anti-freeze to use?93cobra 11-18-2004, 06:12 PM I'd like to know what you think would be the best anti-freeze and additive to use in a 2000 GTP. There are so many to choose from now it gets hard to make a choice. There's the old green stuff that's not suppose to be the best with aluninum and iron. Then there came the red stuff that was suppose to be good for 150,000 or 5 yrs. Now there's the yellow stuff that should mix with everything. I have that red (pink) stuff in my Transport for only 2 yrs. and 15,000 miles. I had a new radiator installed at the time so I went with that stuff. Well now I have some problems with it and the shop that put it in said that alot of people are haveing problems with the red stuff. I'd like to hear what you have to say since I will be starting fresh on my 2000GTP. 94sportsedan 11-18-2004, 10:01 PM Well supposedly the Red stuff clogs heater cores, and radiators and eats head gaskets, and water pumps. But in all my GM cars in the past few years that had the red stuff I never had any issues whatsoever. In fact I just got a 1997 GTP that green stuff in it, I jsut flushed it today and filled with red PRestone 5/150. Also the Havoline red stuff is supposed to be GM approved. 93cobra 11-19-2004, 12:30 AM I just checked my other transport and the same thing is happening with the gunk build up, but not to the same extent. erjulian 12-01-2004, 02:32 PM Well supposedly the Red stuff clogs heater cores, and radiators and eats head gaskets, and water pumps. I just had my radiator flushed and the yellow Peak Global put in and it has been runnig fine. I took it to a oil change shop and they flushed and filled it within 10 minutes for $39.00 93cobra 12-01-2004, 03:49 PM I have to have the radiator taken out, boiled out, resoldered and I'm getting rid of that red stuff. The yellow is suppose to be the lastest formula and thats what it'll get. The Red stuff even clogs the heater core. After seeing the extent of the crap that was in my 3yr old radiator I think the antifreeze company owes me some money. Mind you less then 20,000 mile too. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
