96 dakota tranny woes24alaus 11-17-2004, 07:41 PM I have a 96 dakota SLT 3.9 auto. I bought it used in 98 with 4000kms on the clock. I just realized that the torgue converter has not been locking up until recently. 82000 kms . It used to rev 2000 rpm for 90 kph(55 mph) . One month ago on a drive I looked it was reving 1800 for 90kph now it is reving 1900 for 90kph. Any ideas? Could it be a solenoid problem or is the torque converter the problem? The revs seem to be eratic and I have had it hold to 70 kph at 1400 rpm before unloading and increasing the revs. I would like the input of the knowledgeable folks on this forum before I prostrate myself at the feet of some tranny shop! My mileage on the hiway has improved about 60 miles per tank but I have to be very light on the gas and ease it up to 80kph before the revs drop to 1700. Up here in Canada the gas is about $3 a gollon (american gallon so I am interested in the mileage) thanks vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
