Whining noise when I let off the gasMyrtle Beach 11-16-2004, 09:39 AM I am having some problems with noise from the drivetrain. When I get up to 55-60 and let off the gas I get a whining noise from somewhere under the vehichle. As soon as i apply the gas the noise goes away. I have recently had both differentials rebuilt (although if they weren't done correctly I guess that could be the problem). I am thinking u-joints or possibly a transfer case bearing, Any thought? a_alyte 11-16-2004, 12:08 PM I would hate to be right on this, but to me it sounds like a diff issue. I had my rear diff rebuilt a few months ago because everytime I would let off the gas at the speeds you stated, I would hear a whining sound! As soon as I would accelerate again the sound would disappear. I was the 2nd owner of my Jeep & the original owner also had the rear diff rebuilt, equalling 2 rebuilds within a 5 year period! JDPascal 11-16-2004, 01:27 PM Sounds like a diff problem alright. Could be the coast side gear wear on the ring and pinion or check the outer pinion bearing for problems. Those are the two main stress points in the diff when you back off on the gas. JD Syrus 12-06-2004, 10:48 PM I have the whining, but mine is not to loud. It starts at 50 and stops around 60.. If I need Something fixed tell me now, Because i have a Bumper to Bumper on it for a month from the dealership.. I just got it. a_alyte 12-07-2004, 03:37 PM Well Syrus, you might want to have the diffs checked out soon, the problem only gets worse! If you have bumper to bumper for a month, take it to the dealership ASAP, other wise, be prepared to spend some $$$. Syrus 12-07-2004, 10:41 PM TY, calling them in the morning.. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
