Why I never bet on a race ...JekylandHyde 11-15-2004, 11:44 AM I was at an open track this past weekend. I had just run back-to-back 11.9s .... and while I was in the staging lanes I heard two guys talking. One was driving a newer Vette running low 13s and the other was driving a late 60's Camaro. It was a beautiful blue, sounded really mean and had tires meant to get it down the track. It was apparent I was going to be running the Camaro the next round. I overheard the Camaro driver mention that he was looking to taste his first 11 second run. I smiled knowing we would have a close race ;) Anyway, he chirped out a .1 faster light than me ... I snagged some boost lag off the line (been a long time since I did that!) and to top it off I missed the crucial 2nd gear shift. *sigh* He went 12.0 @ 108 ... to my 12.4 @ 119 mph. So he unded up a good 1/2 second ahead of me (a good 5-6 car lengths). We chatted in the pits. He was really nice guy, bummed he didn;t snag his 11 and he was surprised I didn't take him. Me too :) s-15racer 11-15-2004, 11:46 AM Well too bad you lost but hey at least he wasnt an ass! JekylandHyde 11-15-2004, 11:51 AM Well too bad you lost but hey at least he wasnt an ass! It's all good ... I won the other 4 races :) Here is one video of my fastest trap (119.65 mph): http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/hyde_119_spin.mpg ... notice the massive wheels spin about 30 feet off the line *sigh* I think the light weight of my new dragwheels just spins so fast when the power gets to them. Notice how the nose dives as soon as the wheels spin. grrr.... clawhammer 11-15-2004, 12:03 PM So have you been able to beat your 11.7 yet? s-15racer 11-15-2004, 12:04 PM That is awesome!! You have created a monster :naughty: JekylandHyde 11-15-2004, 12:14 PM My four 11.7 passes stand as my best so far ... unfortunately my clutch is finally giving out. Next year I will have a stronger clutch and another 100rwhp or so ... I will be looking to destroy the 11.7 barrier that is keeping my monster caged ;) phillyx2000 11-15-2004, 12:25 PM My four 11.7 passes stand as my best so far ... unfortunately my clutch is finally giving out. Next year I will have a stronger clutch and another 100rwhp or so ... I will be looking to destroy the 11.7 barrier that is keeping my monster caged ;) your car would be a perfect run for my buddy rob's camaro.. his best was a 11.7 too. good runs :bigthumb: CivRacer95 11-15-2004, 06:42 PM Nice run. Damn I wish my Civic could be that fast, but then again that would be a lot of money to do that. Oh well. Maybe. Late... chevytrucks92 11-15-2004, 11:30 PM I guess you let your nerves get to ya, lol. It happens. Still, you was fortunate to pull off an 12.4(edit), after missing 2nd gear! What are you planning to do to gain an extra 100 hp?? JekylandHyde 11-16-2004, 08:40 AM chevytrucks92, I think you read something wrong ... I did not get an 11.7 this weekend and I never ran 11.7 with a mis shifted :) My missed shifts usually equal 12.2~12.4s. The extra 100 HP is coming from cams, larger ijectors, fuel rail and EMS (engine management system). Hypsi87 11-16-2004, 08:59 AM I really want to see your car run. It's not that I don't beleive what you post, I just think it is a bad ass setup and would love to see it. Maybe stage next to it, my best on pump gas is 11.78@113 (stock intercooler and 3300 stall converter hurt MPH) and that was on 23 PSI. I can run 25 PSI now with the better programming and Alcohol tuning I have done. That and in about 2 weeks I will have my liquid intercooler setup in running a 10 gallon Icewater resivor, and a 10 gal per hour pump. JekylandHyde 11-16-2004, 10:19 AM I would never ask anyone to believe anything ... I always can prove it :) There are many videos of my runs here: http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/slips.htm 6 of them are in the 11s and 3 of them are 11.7s (my fastest). Hypsi87, I wouldn't mind running you. Your chances would be great ... I often screw up when I am challenged ... lol. Hypsi87 11-16-2004, 12:30 PM I would never ask anyone to believe anything ... Hypsi87, I wouldn't mind running you. Your chances would be great ... I often screw up when I am challenged ... lol. I just wanted to claify that I beleve you about your car. I reread my post and it could of sounded like I was saying I wanted to see this because I don't believe it. You posts and common sense is enough for me. I would not want to run you to say I beat you or vise versa, Just a freindly race. What do you do mostly, drag racing or road racing, and which do you perfer? JekylandHyde 11-16-2004, 12:50 PM Which racing do I do more? That is hard to answer. This year I did 7 Drag Events and 3 open tracks. I only did 3 Solo I Hill Climbs and 2 Solo II autocrosses. It would appear that I have drag raced more, unless you actually add up the TRUE seat time. I've actually spent more seat time racing in the hill climbsd since they are 1 - 2.5 minute courses. Which do I prefer? Before I started doing hill climbs I would have said drag racing. Now that I have done the hills .... nothing compares. Hill climbing is like combining autocross with drag racing. When you can legally race on public roads, bust past 115 mph and try to nail a sharp turn ... man. You can watch the in car videos on my site or buy my DVD and see it on your TV .... but nothing will really give you a true sensation of the speed/danger like actually doing it. Find the in car hill climb accident video of my friend Fabio's MR2. 110+ mph and he rolled it 3 times. It's on my site and elsewhere online. Hill Climbing truly sets the men from the boys since it is not all about what your car can do ... it's about what you can do with your car ... and how much courage you have. My AIM is jekylhyderacing ... and I can not be on during the day. During the semester I am rarely on. Usually if I am on, it is later at night during the week (after 9 pm). chevytrucks92 11-16-2004, 01:17 PM chevytrucks92, I think you read something wrong ... The extra 100 HP is coming from cams, larger ijectors, fuel rail and EMS (engine management system). I did, lol. The whole time I was typing that response, I was thinking 12.40s is what he ran, and then for some unknown reason, I typed 11.70s, lol. Oh well, lol. Cam(s) is a good way to gain alot of hp. That plus the rest of what you are planning, and 100 hp should be well within reach! You keep on adding all this power, and your MR2 is going to be faster then my Vega, lol. Those 100 extra ponies is giong to put you dangerously close to the 10 second range (if it doesn't put you comfortably in the 10 second range). Good luck with it! JekylandHyde 11-16-2004, 03:15 PM 10s is the goal ... we'll see next year ;) chevytrucks92 11-16-2004, 03:21 PM I'm sure you'll get there with it, provided you can launch the thing. If I were you though, I'd freshen the engine before I did this, or at the very least get new valve springs. It'd be a shame to break a valve spring and ruin your near 500 hp engine. BTW, have you got the front tires off the ground since you added the new wheels? JekylandHyde 11-16-2004, 03:28 PM Since the wheels, I ahve had this problem: High tire pressure = wheels spin Low tire pressure = grip and my 4-puck clutch starts banging around I just ordered anew "special super secret" clutch that should do the job ... we'll see next season ;) chevytrucks92 11-16-2004, 03:59 PM Since the wheels, I ahve had this problem: High tire pressure = wheels spin Low tire pressure = grip and my 4-puck clutch starts banging around I just ordered anew "special super secret" clutch that should do the job ... we'll see next season ;) Lol. Maybe its time you go with an automatic transmission with a big stall converter??? Atleast for the drag racing days. It woudl make life alot easier for you AND make your car much more consistant. Don't know if it'd be legal for your class, but you could then use a trans. break and see much better reaction times along with better 60fts. JekylandHyde 11-16-2004, 04:23 PM But being inconsistent makes life interesting ... I don't even know what will happen next! :) Hypsi87 11-16-2004, 05:10 PM mmm turbos and automatics go together like pizza and beer. dampachi 11-16-2004, 08:08 PM One time..I took a bite of pizza. and then a sip of beer. Then I vomited all over my dining room table. -The Stig- 11-16-2004, 08:18 PM One time..I took a bite of pizza. and then a sip of beer. Then I vomited all over my dining room table. :sly: Yeah, so... All in favor not inviting this guy to any AF party, say Aye. Aye. :p chevytrucks92 11-16-2004, 08:42 PM :sly: Yeah, so... All in favor not inviting this guy to any AF party, say Aye. Aye. :p Lol. Did ya get a new clutch for the Z?? dampachi 11-16-2004, 08:49 PM AWW but that's not fair!! I wanna be part of the parties and stuff. I'm sorry. :( I'll behave. Honest. :( Just give me a chance! You guys are never nice to me. :,( JohnC24 11-18-2004, 11:22 AM he'll make the parties funner. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
