'97 Camaro V6 vs. '03 Civic SIcamaroincal 11-13-2004, 05:36 PM I was cruising in the 2nd lane on the highway going 65 because I was very low on gas and wanted to make sure I could make it home. Anyway, An '03 Civic Si pulls next to me in the slow lane and paces me...no revving or anything but I glanced over and he was looking at my car. So I put it in 4th and pull up a little bit. He does the same so then I give it a bit more in 4th and get in front of him(highway was pretty busy) he stayed behind me. So then there was a nice big clearing up ahead and I felt like punching it (getting closer to home and I figured I had just enough gas for some fun) So I wanted to see if he could keep pace. I dropped it in the 3rd and just floored it hehe. At first he was keeping pace but I shifted into 4th and got past 100 he really started to fall back not sure If he didn't want to go any faster. So then after getting up to 110 fairly quickly I drop her back down to 65 and WOW I have like no gas LOL. So I see him back there weaving around a bit and he catches me. My offramp is coming soon but just enough room for one more little run. We both get into 3rd at about 65 and punch it. I slowly walk him to about 90 or so and then I had to get off while he sped away in the fast lane. BTW Mine is a 97 Camaro M5 Flowmaster cat back and SLP CAI, and I'm pretty sure he was stock, but I just know he had stock exhaust. Maybe he had some stuff done but I couldn't tell. It was fun though. 15poundhead 12-14-2004, 04:47 PM how is this a comparo? MexSiR 12-14-2004, 10:22 PM Comparing how a camaro is worse on gas when racing? lol. RickwithaTbird 12-15-2004, 05:28 AM i didnt know they made a v6 camaro in a 5 speed kman10587 12-15-2004, 05:47 AM Yeah, they can be tough to find, but they're around. camaroincal 12-15-2004, 07:26 PM lol....I dunno who put this in here because I posted it in the street racing forum on 11/13/04.....interesting. MexSIR, Actually my car is rated at 19 city 30 highway which isn't at all far behind these highwinding Vtecs with high compression ratios. Rick, you seriously didn't know you could get a V6 with a 5 speed?...lol Ace$nyper 12-15-2004, 07:53 PM huh what?!?! i fell asleep SiGNAL748 12-15-2004, 11:57 PM what do v6 camaros usually run in the quarter? pikkagtr 12-16-2004, 05:00 AM slow..... and slower......hehe j/k i believe my friend ran a 16.1 in his auto v6 so the mt should be slightly faster camaroincal 12-16-2004, 10:18 AM With a good driver and conditions, a 95-02 3.8 V6 with a 5 speed manual will pull a low 15, and an auto mid 15's. On average though, manual you're looking mid to high 15 and automatic high 15 to low 16. PWRDbyUNCLEbens 12-16-2004, 03:03 PM I raced my friends v6 4 speed auto firebird when my car had a bad clutch, and it was almost dead even in 1/4. I could imagine that with a 5 speed they would be pretty nice cars. install roller rockers/lifters, aftermarket cam, exhaust etc. and it would be pretty quick. qr25sentra 12-16-2004, 07:33 PM one of my friends has a v6 camaro, when i drove in it,it felt like it had some power.it would be a close race if i raced her with my 2.5 sentra auto..and her car is auto also. i never timed my car but i think i trap around 86 or so.so im assuming 16-16.3 somewhere in there. street_racer_00 12-20-2004, 03:55 PM When my car was bone ass stock a couple of years ago, I raced my friends '95 V-6 camaro 5-speed (also bone ass stock). He'd get me by a car off the line, but I would catch him up by about 50 mph and be about 2 cars ahead of him by 80...those V-6 camaros have pretty good torque off the line, but not very much top end....not that my car is the fastest thing in the world when it comes to top end... Blazedout06 12-20-2004, 03:59 PM i can't believe what i am reading... a v6 camaro...and a civic si.... that nigga in the si def aint knwo how to drive... man a si would whoop that asssssssss street_racer_00 12-20-2004, 04:04 PM Uhhhh, hate to break it to ya blazedout....but the new generation Si's are not that fast at all....they are mid to high 15 second cars best case scenario...which is about the same as a V-6 manual camaro, coincidentally. camaroincal 12-20-2004, 08:25 PM i can't believe what i am reading... a v6 camaro...and a civic si.... that nigga in the si def aint knwo how to drive... man a si would whoop that asssssssss Don't you have some 8th grade English homework to work on? :grinno: camaroincal 12-20-2004, 08:28 PM When my car was bone ass stock a couple of years ago, I raced my friends '95 V-6 camaro 5-speed (also bone ass stock). Do you know if it was the 3.4 or 3.8 liter V6? You could get both that year, and I'm pretty sure you could only get the 3.8 in California, but I'm not positive. I ask because there is a fairly significant performance difference from the 3.4(160 hp) to the 3.8(200 hp) camaroincal 12-20-2004, 08:30 PM Uhhhh, hate to break it to ya blazedout....but the new generation Si's are not that fast at all....they are mid to high 15 second cars best case scenario...which is about the same as a V-6 manual camaro, coincidentally. Actually best case scenario for the Camaro M5 V6 is low 15's  But you got the Civic SI right...it's a little slower than the Camaro stock. street_racer_00 12-20-2004, 09:00 PM Do you know if it was the 3.4 or 3.8 liter V6?
