Who has the most milesAutobanaurora 11-13-2004, 09:53 AM I would like to know who has the most miles on their Aurora and what has been the most costly expense. Please reply with total miles to date, year and total cost and description of any major repairs not covered under any factory warranty. Threads without repairs I will assume you have a perfect car. I will start with my 98 Autoban, 95,000 miles, $450.00 for ignition replacement. I know of two 96 Aurora's in Atlanta with 250,000+ miles with no major repairs. Can anyone match this? I hope to get a great response from all of you that own Aurora's in this forum. Thanks jim56 11-13-2004, 11:40 AM '97 bought with 60,000............now has 130,000 tires $650 Brakes $400 radiator $500 A/C compressor and waterpump $1100 plugs and wires $450 Fuel rail before the recall $300 rearshocks $50 serpentine belt $300 TxAurora 11-13-2004, 06:35 PM '97, I bought it in '99 with 35k Now has 145k Brake pads - $50 Radiator - $350 SparkPlugs & Wires - don't remember Oil changes every 3 months Transmission Filter & Fluid once a year All work performed by me Of course...Thursday my wife killed my car by smackin a guard rail...EVERY body panel is destroyed or deformed in some way. Interior & power train stuff appears to be fine. Will prolly post on E-bay soon to sell it off... TxAurora Richards98Aurora 11-13-2004, 07:23 PM 98 model bought in June 2002 with 51,000 at Autoplex in Denton, Tx. Have 149,500 on it today. New AC Compressor at 52,000. New Michelins at 75,000. Disks twice, miles unknown. Plugs and Wires 110,000. Battery in May 2003. Radiator - classic passenger crack , 125,000. Alternator at 130,000. Had work done at the stealer, Over $500. Silverstar Low beams in June 2004 Broken power window wire in drives door jam. Repaired with bullet connectors September 2004. Replaced driverside Axle Bearing October 2004. Only took about 45 minutes. After reading of the horror story and viewing photos by Rorastar I was nervous. All issues seem to compare with others posted here regularly. They built them all the same! Change fluids on time and check the air in the the tires. I have driven it a ton of miles and it has held up well. Only auto I ever liked better was my old 74 El Camio. Dated my wife in school driving that auto. No car can EVER compare with the times I had in that car with her. :-) I hope to get around 250,000. I have placed that on my last several autos successfully. 1988 Blazer, 1985 Grand Am, 1980 Cutlass and 1978 Toronado. All were used when purchased. dmorlow 11-13-2004, 08:55 PM 160,000 miles on mine. It's kind of nice to see the repairs people had done. It seems like all of the auroras have about the same problems. I've had about all the problems everyone listed (other than alternator and waterpump). So it is nice knowing that I might be towards the end of the repairs needed. I've had my transmission pulled once, abs traction fixed once, a few months ago, i had to replace my radiator, i am doing my brakes in a few days, just had my AC compressor replaced, my battery died about a year ago. A lot of problems. Pretty much what everyone else had wrong. So I am expecting for my water pump to go out soon, my alternator to die, and my shocks to die (which it seems like my car has been riding very stiff lately), then I should be all set forever with my repairs!!! 1995oldsaurora 11-14-2004, 12:07 AM '97 bought with 60,000............now has 130,000 tires $650 Brakes $400 radiator $500 A/C compressor and waterpump $1100 plugs and wires $450 Fuel rail before the recall $300 rearshocks $50 serpentine belt $300 wow!! $300.00 for a serpentine belt,,are they that difficult to replace ?? Sweet William 11-14-2004, 10:50 PM Jim56 who is charging those kind of prices? $300 for the belt and $450 for wires and plugs is totally outragous! After you have done the belt once it is a fifteen minute job. I used a two foot peice of brake line to make a tool for the job. Just bend the last couple of inches 90 degrees and flatten it out. Makes it a peice of cake. The first time I spent more like an hour. 1995 with 57,000 four years ago 118,000 now -brake pads, front and rear -rear shocks -plugs/wires -one coil -shift solenoids -water pump-did all hoses and belts at the same time -EGR stuck twice. Paid for it the first time, not second -fuel rail leaked as recall started -Mobil1 every five to six thousand miles -tranny fluid and coolant with Bars Leak Gold every fall -for the last the last few months it has been making the "pop" sound in the left front when turning right -I did all the work except the EGR the first time. I had no idea what was going on. I've learned a lot from this and a couple of other boards. Pretty minor repairs for the miles and age of the car. I would not hesitate to take of cross country in it right now. jim56 11-14-2004, 10:56 PM Belt was the dealer Plugs and wires was an independent Vizion 11-15-2004, 01:03 PM Bought a 95 with about 50,000 in 2000. Replaced: * New transmission - 2 g's * New fuel rail - 500 (finally getting reimbursed from GM for this) * New tires - 500 (or so) * New brakes - ? (midas) * New rear shocks/struts 300 Added: * New Mini Disc Stereo unit 200 * New 10 cd changer 200 To come (possible next summer): *ALL new speakers *Headrest monitors *DVD / PS2 installed *GPS All in all I've put more or less 3-4 grand into it. Its got 95,000 miles now...going strong...just need to repair some minor dings and a new paint job. madcatter 11-16-2004, 12:12 PM I've only had mine since Feb. this year. '95, 157000 miles. So far, a thermostat, plugs, all fluids & filters changed, a couple light bulbs that were out when I got it and a cleaned EGR. For fun, new wheels and tires (17's) and new pipes. Other than big money going into gas, this has been the cheapest operating car I've had to date all for $3500. chaqueno 11-17-2004, 11:10 AM Bought our 1997 in May of this year with 91000 kms on it and we currently have about 105000 kmson it. Started with new Amzoil Synthetic Oil & Filter New Alternator in June - Warranty Waterpump Belt in July - $15.00 (easy job,did myself) AC Compressor Clutch August - $178.00 (Garage) Steering Rack in November (rebuilt one) - Warranty Waterpump in November - Warranty Thermostat in November Oil Cooler Hoses (cost $180.00 for both + $50.00 labour) And in December I will put a new gas filter in and do a Tranny oil change as well as a fresh Synthetic motor oil change. We love the car and I think I can justify the repairs sofar. I know that these are things that are regular wear and replace items around the kms I have on the car. I bought a Warranty with the car for 3 years were I pay the first $150.00 of the repair bill. Aurora44 11-17-2004, 08:16 PM I have 160,000 on mine and it has been in the family since 40,000...has had its deal of repairs but runs good now. dmorlow 11-17-2004, 09:24 PM I need somebody to post that says they have a car with over 160,000 miles on it. (Not somebody that knows somebody that heard somebody whisper to somebody else they they may have seen an aurora with 250,000 miles on it.) It's sad, my car has the most miles on it which means other people aren't posting because all of theirs died at about 150,000 to 160,000 miles. Not a lot to look forward to now. Come on people. Somebody can beat my 160,000 miles!!! Smo0ve 11-18-2004, 01:04 AM Mine has 193,200 miles on it now. Tranny was rebuilt before I got it last year, water pump in June, recall work last month. Other than needing new rear shocks, the car runs fine. Traction control light goes on and off, but that has no ill effects. I never owned a car that had it, so I don't miss it. I just wish it had more low end torque. It seemed a lot faster when I first got it! If I could find another Acura Legend, I would sell my Aurora in a heartbeat though! It's still a good running luxurious car though. It's great on long road trips. Autobanaurora 11-19-2004, 04:48 PM I need somebody to post that says they have a car with over 160,000 miles on it. As for the other, a friend of his works at GM Assembly in Doraville and stands by the word. One I can vouch for... sundown 12-08-2004, 04:11 PM I have 253,000 miles on a 1995 Aurora I bought off the showroom floor in August of 1994. The most expensive repair I ever had was to replace the AC compressor approx. $700. The dealer was Goodwrench Plus and replaced it free a year later when it died. Rezarecter 12-10-2004, 12:46 AM I have a 1995 with 153,000 miles and nothing replaced but the Idle control motor and some ignition coils. AuroraKing3 12-11-2004, 03:21 PM Over 140,000 on two and 101,000 on my third one now. Sorry to say ever got to see if the two would go more than 140,000 cause both were total. Only did brakes and oil change to them. JerDfx 09-23-2005, 02:25 PM 96 olds aurora. Bought in Jan 05. Now sept 05. Less than a year. With all these repairs. I still have faith after another 10,000 in repairs it will run. Good Luck Jer tjm 09-23-2005, 03:15 PM Jer, Sorry to hear of your issues. sounds like you do have few issues with the AC, fuel gauge, window and brake line - but all the rest sounds like reg maintnence and overall it seems as though the previous owner let things go until "poor you" took it off their hands. for your code PO171: from http://www.obd-codes.com Causes A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened: The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters (K&N, etc.) can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.Possible Solutions Possible solutions include: In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure BTW - I have 197,000 miles and I have done many of the common "Aurora" fixes. Overall I love it and I am very concerned about what can replace it when it gets to 300,000 miles fishus 09-24-2005, 08:23 AM Purchased my 97 in June 2005 with 169000 miles on it. The motor that was in it, is sitting besides my shed now. Seems like someone ran over something or hit a huge pothole, cracking the oil pan. I guess They decided to keep on driving, losing the oil, and causing the engine to over heat, blowing the head gaskets. And also causing cracks in the engine block. If the tranny pan, was made like the engine pan, It probably would be sitting beside the shed also. I think some people would be better off with a heavy duty bicycle. Indy8 11-11-2005, 02:25 PM 115,000 today, fuel gauge going crazy setting off Check Engine Light. Guess I'll have to replace that $500.00 sensor. What a rip. Owners, be careful with this common Aurora problem. The fuel sending sensor is available separately from the whole assembly. I paid $152 for it and $96 labor to install AT THE DEALER. dff 11-11-2005, 05:10 PM I would like to know who has the most miles on their Aurora and what has been the most costly expense. I have to admit that parts and repairs for this car are VERY expensive. I've had the following repairs: Radiator and Water Pump: $900 AC Compressor and hoses: $1400 Multi-function switch: +$300 Ignition Switch: $500 Fuel Rail: Recalled item Sunroof binds when closing and needs repairing. Looses water so probably needs new head / head gasket. I cringe any time I need to take it to my mechanic but other than that I've been very satisfied with this car. A V-8 that gets 25 mpg is a big plus, too. tjm 03-03-2006, 09:54 AM The Aurora Club of North America has a member with over 300,000 miles. No major repairs and still runs well. IloveAlice 03-19-2006, 11:43 PM ’96 with 166,000 This was a good exercise. Please don't remind me which repairs were gross overcharges; it made me sick all over again to type them :(. But overall this is an overpriced, heavy car with stupid coil-pack system that requires tuning and replacement of plugs/wires and coils all the time, stupid shock-ajustment-pumps and has too many gizmos that can go bad and mess up the car. GM engineers could have made this car 500 pounds lighter, 30HP stronger and they could have put a simple 1 coil firing mechanism that's easy to maintain. Learn a little from Toyota for God's sake. Take a look under new Camry's hood. tjm 06-12-2006, 07:52 AM Bought my 95 Aurora on 1999 with 63000 miles, now it has 115,000 and going strong and smooth. LMAO - #1 coil packs replace a distributor (and a single coil mechanizm) and under normal circumstances, NEVER require "tuning" or maintenence of any kind. #2 plugs and wires should last at least 80,000 miles. if they don't then stop buying the cheap parts. #3 look under the NEW camery's hood??? All I've done is put two tires on it & repair a fuel rail leak. Has the typical oil leak & a can of leak fix every oil change keeps the drips at a minimum. The second owner replaced the ac compressor, power seat motor, window motor, computer, ignition module, coil packs, radiator, alternator, belts, hoses, tune up, brakes & a transmission flush. All the repairs were made at a local shop. The dollar amount in repairs/maintenance receipts I received from the owner comes to around $5K +. Planning on driving it as a work car until the wheels fall off. Renneberg 03-31-2007, 10:43 PM 2001 3.0L V6. I bought it w/ 24K mi. (used) in Oct. 2001. It now has 155K on it. I have 3 other cars, all with more miles, incl a Camry with 330K. Biggest thing I've had to replace is the transmission - died at ~100K and cost me ~$3000. Although I love how the car handles, its responsiveness and road feel, it has been in the shop more than all of the other cars put together. Water pump, A/C, heater, dual climate contl, window switches, brakes (many times), leaky trunk, oil leaks, would-not-start problems (several times, turned out to be the Pwr Cntl Module), fuel level sensors (it's in the shop today for the 2nd of these to go out and they tell me it's $600 to fix it). I also have a evap system leak (check gas cap indicator) that the shop can't find w/o shotgunning the replacement of everything, an occasional dimming of the headlights that the dealer tells me is "normal" but quite distracting at night, and a transmission that occasionally jerks while shifting (a speed sensor that's not working right - the same thing that was happening when the transmission went out at 100K mi). Sweet William 04-13-2007, 11:24 PM Got a 95 with around 120,000 and a blown head gasket. Ain't gonna fix it. Time to just let go. jcoats01 04-20-2007, 10:43 PM 2001 3.5L purchased in 2004 with 79,000 miles on it now has 167,000 on it and going strong. Has an oil leak (supposedly from oil sender unit that has been replaced twice) but other wise very happy. I drive it hard 500 plus miles a week and consider it the sharpest car on the road today. Issues I've had: P0410 - current replaced SEC AIR MOTOR working on drive cycles to reset Front Rack - $400 R Front wheel berrings..warranty Trunk leaks occassionally...( think I spotted it on the rear strut mounts) TPS- $39 Pax Side Climate Control Acutator...$170 GM tech just put it on his scanner for me and said "runs great...these were awesome cars" Happy in Buffalo! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
