GST with lots of miles worth the price?Actinide 11-13-2004, 03:38 AM I'be been looking for either a '97-'99 GSX or GST for the past few days to trade in for my '97 RS. Since I can't find any GSX's I might have to settle for a GST. I found a couple of relatively cheap GSTs around my area which I might go take a look at soon. The only problem is the high miles on them. One of them has 140,000 for $7,500 and another has 135,000 for $6,500. The owner doesn't mention any problems with the car and they both have upgraded to the T28 turbo, springs, and 18" wheels. Assuming there is nothing wrong with the cars, would it be worth making the purchase with those many miles? I know I would have to change the engine pretty soon, but what else would I have to change just to be safe? Thanks Actinide 11-13-2004, 03:40 AM I should also mention that I don't plan to do major uprades to the car if I purchase it. It would be just for daily use and would eventually reach no more than ~300HP. xavier3jr 11-13-2004, 07:10 AM well if ur planing on putin a new engine in anyways just put a 6 bolt in viet_boiiiii 11-13-2004, 10:57 AM keep looking.. i found my 98 eclipse gst with 104k miles for $6,900 and it was a lil modded but it still runs very strong. Dont rush into buying cars. took me a month to choose =X Nayr747 11-14-2004, 08:59 AM A month, lol, it's taken me over a year now looking for my GSX. I might just settle for a GST. GSX's DO NOT EXIST ON THE NORTH-WEST COAST. anarchy1114 11-14-2004, 04:42 PM if you plan on changing the engine go with the 6 bolt motor (90-92) and then you'll prolly wanna put a new or rebuilt tranny on it. don't rush into it either .... i rushed into buying an eclipse and ended up with a gs... now its taken me over a year to find a gst even worth buying and thats because jakes built it. my suggetion buy a gsx or gst chasis (i.e. blown motor, bad tranny) and then find someone to put a 6 bolt motor and new tranny in for you and your set. if you can find a gsx chasis for around 2 grand you prolly after the moter and tranny swap will get out of it for under 6 grand. if this is the way you wanna go talk to jake(eclipseRST) he'll be able to give you a more acurate idea on what price would really be. Actinide 11-15-2004, 01:12 AM Thanks for the advice. My dad would be the one doing all the repairs to the car if it needs any, so the labor part would come out to $0. I'll keep checking for more cars and I'll start looking for just the chasis as well. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
