Revive the XJ12!!!

Jaguar needs a real model that can really compete with Mercedes-benz's S-class and BMW's 7-series..and No iam not talking about no puny 390HP "super V8" sedan....I would personally like to see the return of the lengendary XJ12 sedan wielding the V12 from the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish.......Jaguar needs to stop using the 4.6L Supercharged V8 from the Ford SVT cobra and create thier own unique engines.....and besides 390HP isnt gonna do much against MB's and BMW's 400+HP super-sedans anymore

Thats all good but the v12 is outdated technology..it is basically to straight sixes joined at the hip..It is possible to get 600 hp out of that motor without much modifications but the motor produces too much heat..It just about cooks everything under the hood. Besides..nothing breakes a v12 owners heart like telling them that they need a new timing chain tensioner, it only costs $75, but the labor to replace it is $4400.00
Thing like this ended the v12's run with Jaguar. The cost on warranting the car make it too much for the automaker to bear in a more competitve market.

Jaguar's V-8 is a REAL Jaguar V-8. It shares nothing with a Ford 4.6 V-8 and was not even developed together with it. Check the following link:

Jaguar's new 4.2 V-8 does not have the timing chain tensioner problems of the 98-00 XJ8.

The new Jaguar XJ has an aluminum chassis which reduces weight. The 2005 Jaguar Super V8, the XJ flagship, weighs over 800 pounds less than a BMW 760Li! The Super V8 also has Brembo brakes. The 05 Super V8 costs over $26,000 less than a BMW 760Li and over $35,000 less than a Mercedes-Benz S600.

Even though the new Jaguar XJ is much bigger than the previous car, the body weighs only 485 pounds rather than 794 pounds of the previous steel-bodied XJ.

The new aluminum chassis is 40 per cent lighter than that of the equivalent steel body. The new body is 60 per cent stiffer than its predecessor.

If Jaguar were to make a new XJ12 and use an Aston Martin V-12, it wouldn't have the price advantage of the Super V8.

The Aston Martin DB9 and new Aston Martin V8 Vantage both use a modified Vanquish chassis. The next Jaguar XK8 will use the new XJ's aluminum chassis.

i dont wish to be rude but xjoeharperx clearly has no clue and is talking out the wrong end, The jaguar v12 engine i agree was a very good engine, still being used by Lister in the Storm.

The V12 used by Aston Martin has nothing to do with the old Jaguar unit and actually more to do with a ford V6 duratec engine used in the UK in a car called a Ford Mondeo, the car the Jaguar X-type shares its floor pan with.

Do you self a favour mate, do your research and stop preaching a load of German Cum at me!

Jaguar should drop the X-Type and make an aluminum S-Type (to go along with the current aluminum XJ and the forthcoming aluminum XK).

Jaguar's old V-12 would not have been able to pass new emissions regulations even with revisions.

Aston Martin has a V12 correct, which is quite close in terms of design to the Jaguar V12 that used for practically forever. However putting a V12 in a modern Jaguar would be crazy due to the fact that there are UNIBODY cars. The old ones wighed a ton, well 3 to be exact due to the fact that they were all steel SEMIMONOCOQUE. which could support the tourqe produced by the V12 a few times over. The unibody just wouldn't handle it, it would have to be beefed up to the fact that even with the added horsepower of 4 cylinders it would perform the same. Add to that the fact that Ford has said NO to the V12.:banghead: :disappoin
