Governor or no Governor?!?FatAlbert85 11-12-2004, 06:52 PM So I read in a magazine the other day that the 95-98 240's had a governor that limited speed at 115mph. I had to find out if this was true, so on a strip of road on the KS turnpike, I hit around 130mph (beating my friends' Civic Si, heh heh). I read that the only way to get rid of the governor was to disable the speed sensor in the transmission, which would also disable the speedo. I still had the speedo, but I was wondering what the heck was up with that... unless the mag was wrong. mrx7255 11-12-2004, 11:40 PM every 240sx is governed at 115mph stock. GT500916 11-13-2004, 12:01 AM i was able to reach 120 with no prob, never got a chance to go faster yet, but 115 either seems wrong or we both dont have one for speed hahah,i think i hit 120 in 4th, at redline then was aout to shift to 5th but decided to slow down, didnt want to get a ticket... ill need to a find a better roadto top it out in 5th :naughty: there sure is one for the redline... wich is a good thing!! Xtreme_098 11-13-2004, 12:18 AM Is that really a question? Why would you want a governer? Just go ahead and put it on about 60 if your still considering keeping it. niswiz 11-13-2004, 10:18 AM my 89 toped out at 110 in 3rd i cant go any faster on any gear with the ka niswiz 11-13-2004, 10:20 AM right now im doing the SR swap it should be done in like 2 more weeks (doing it all myself,no help, and runig out of money) S13wanabe 11-13-2004, 11:20 AM Well my governor kicks in at about 118mph. It scared the shit out of me the first time it happened. I hate it but hell, I shouldn't be driving that fast anyway. johnnyboy5 11-14-2004, 12:51 PM at 4th gear redlined my 240 hit 120 mph (speedo only reads up to 110 so how can we know?) , and then the governor kicked in. S13wanabe 11-14-2004, 01:07 PM I'm guessing you have an analogue speedo. Mine is digital so it will go up to 199mph if I could get it there. It's the one good thing about the digital speedo. LaYzIeNoY 11-14-2004, 09:33 PM i have the Sr20det redtop i've gotten it to about 125-130 just an estimate considering that i have the analogue speedo, the needle was down there near the mile number i havent done anything to the governor soo my best guess is its because the swap something doesnt wanna work, well at least its in my favor S13wanabe 11-15-2004, 11:35 AM I believe the governor is a chip in the ecu that shuts off the fuel at a certain mph. That's just what I have heard but it makes sense. In Hondas you can elimnate the governor by ecu tuning, or any of the piggyback systems. I'm sure it has got to be the same with Nissan. It's the same with rev limiters. And a question: does the 1991 240SX SE have a rev limiter? 240sxAddict 11-15-2004, 12:44 PM my car is weird top speed is suppose 2 be like wat 120 or 125??? i have a a/t and i do the gear change manually i go on 1 2 d and over drive then it goes into another gear 5 (do a/t have a 5th gear??) i was hitting more than 125 i know that and i still didnt redline why is that? AWDSR20 11-15-2004, 04:14 PM govener......................grrrrrrrrrrr i hate that thing.... i passed a mazda 626 like a mad cow on crack on the freeway, just so he can catsh up with me after an hour doing 125 mph, as i lay there helpless STUCK at 110 mph....... ohhh the agonyyy!! SHIFT_KA24DE 11-15-2004, 04:21 PM overdrive on an auto is kind of like shifting down with stick. Chuki_breath 11-15-2004, 04:44 PM yea i was once followed by a friend so i could max my car out....he said i was going about 120-125 anywhere in between there as he was following me going the same speed give or take a few mph. I too have an auto and it just stops at like 5,000 rpms when it gets maxed. The speedometer is almost back to 0 mph the needle is pegged to the max. johnnyboy5 11-16-2004, 02:18 AM i believe the 240 also has a rev limiter. i did it once by accident (no intention) but i noticed it didnt pass over 7k rpm (or what seems to be the redline) the fuel wasnt cut off though. The needle was reving fast at the redline for about a second when i noticed it. fishlips34 11-16-2004, 03:32 AM sorry about using a link to another forum but this has a great write up on this subject. http://www.club240.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=14717 D-Bo 11-16-2004, 11:31 AM thats awesome.. i'd do it but i don't have the tires for it.. i have the suspension but its sitting in my room waiting for me to earn enough money to put it in.. thegladhatter 11-16-2004, 06:24 PM I believe the governor is a chip in the ecu.... Thjat would be correct. Most people who install a redtop or other engine have an aftermarket ECU. This would mean (in most case) that the top end isn't determined by a governor. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
