I just got a hand me down 1990 Volvo 240 DL from a cousin for the best price ever(FREE). The car is in good shape, but I want to kno if there is any way to make my little car RUN. Is there any way to make it run faster, or make it more powerful; perhaps even turbo-ing it or doing something else to the engine?

i need this help bad, im a fast and powerful car lover and i want my little silver brick to run like the wind and leave other cars in the dust.

Well... for one thing if it were fast it'd be a hell of a sleeper. But its going to require alot of effort.

You can make ANYTHING fast w/ money. I'm not going to pretend to know anything about a 1990 Volvo engine, but if it doesnt take well to mods, your best bet would be to start with an engine swap.

Honestly this is the wrong board for this question, try looking for a Volvo enthusiast board and asking about the potential of your car and its engine.

if its turbo your in luck if not your srcewed.. if its turbo, to a 2.5" exhasut, intake and turn up the boost, look into fuel managment, and get colder plugs and you can see a +50hp gain..

Craziness, get a b230t from a 760 try and source a 5spd and get basic mods (free flow turbo mani, intake, exhause, boost contoller, cam and maybe some bigger injectors) will probably put you in a good position, those motors are tough for what they are can hold close to 350 and 400 on stock internals. Good luck and happy trails with the toughest car you will ever own.

ok here is a good starting point these people know their bricks and actually make some performance parts for these cars. Check out everything there it's pretty amazing what they have available for a car like that lol.

so basically i'm getting the idea that im gonna need to get a turbo engine, preferably from another volvo, or other car? if from another car what kind, what should i look for??

No other car, only Volvo, either than keep turbo you could swap in say a 350 or 302. But boost is funnererer

Even if he could it would not work, s60r is a fwd based platform, 200 700 and 900 series are rwd. So no go on that one.

I knew a guy with a old volvo wagon that ran like 11 somethings.....he put s kenne bell supercharged 5.0 motor in it. talk about sleeper. dont think youll find too many resources with that vehicle though, but like said before, with money, anything can be fast

There are quite a few Volvo tuners out there but in your case since you are talking about an older Volvo I recommend Converse Engineering:

These guys are known for the V8 Volvo conversions and did cars for Paul Newman and David Letterman as I recall.
