VG30DETT Engine Swap

I was thinking of buying a 240SX as my next car. I was wondering however if it is possible to swap the VG30DETT (300ZX engine) into the car and still pass emissions (I'm from Jersey). If this is not possible, what engines can be swapped in. The SR20DET engine sounds kinda good too. Thanx for any replys.

The 300ZX TT engine is not a good swap...have you seen the engine bay of a Z32?? The thing is STUFFED in there...now...I am not positive...but I am pretty sure that a Z32 is wider than both the S13 and S14...so for you to put that V6 TT would be a tight fit. I am sure it could be done...but no one that I have heard of has done it...I mean the Z32 NA guys always talk about wanting to get a TT engine in their car. It has not been done and most people who want TT and have an NA end up being told to sell their NA and get a TT. So what am I trying to say? It's not the brightest idea...it can work...but would require so much work and custom work. Too costly...and you'd lose the nice weight distribution that 240SX's have...

Possible alternatives...

SR20DET [three versions 205HP(S13) , 220HP(S14), 250HP(S15)]
CA18DET [motor that came in the 180SX]
RB20DET [200HP 2.0 Liter Inline 6...comes from a Skyline...pre R32 era]
RB25DET [250HP 2.5 Liter Inline 6...comes from the RWD Skylines R32-R33]
RB26DETT---->dont know anyone who has done it...but it could work...you need to use the RB25DET tranny though

Other alternatives if you dont care about keeping it Nissan

Small block V8
2JZ-GTE (Supra TT engine...being currently done to a S14 for drag racing)

Pretty much anything is possible w/money...

If you have time or can find a copy of an options mag. pick it up and you should be able to find a s13/s14 with the VG30dett. But I don't know why you suggested the small block when you said it yourself that the TT would be hard pressed to fit.:confused:

I am VERY interested in a small block swap. I mean, imagine a GM ZZ4 crate motor in a 240sx...saweeeet. Anybody have any links or info on a swap like this? I bet the motor mounts and a lot of other parts have to be fabricated. In my opinion, that is the ultimate hybrid. A japanese car with an american V8! INFO please!!:eek:

I at least know of one for sure...there was a S13 w/a V8 in it...most of it is going to be custom as you said...I will get on and do a search for it...

It is possible to do VG30DETT 240SX swap.

Yall need to stop your mouths about putting a American V8 into a 240sx (It just anit right!) And don't get a SR20det when a KA24det does the same amount of hosepower at higher tork

The only thing about building a KA24DET is that you have to rebuild the eninge to handle a turbo. Then you have to build or buy a turbo kit. this costs more than an SR20 with multiple upgrades. Besides, you can always overbore or add a stroker kit to the SR for torque.

i dont see why it matters about putting an "american" V8 into a 240, im sure you wouldnt have any qualms with a 2jz being put into one though. japanese means better i guess... you gotta show some respect for small block v8's they are the jam

A) ask in a maxima forum
B) ask in a 300zx forum

The silvia forum is nothing related, and most of the people here havent touched a VG. besides, the VG is a bitch to work on anyways, most dont want it in the silvia.
