recently bought 91 cherokee briarwood with hard brake pedal (no power)and red brake light stays on.did my homework and found recall notice at recalls.gov for booster and pump, question is do they make a better aftermarket system? also been told sys could be modifided to regular brakes by cutting the lines near master cylinder and flaring the different ends onto the new master cylinder and booster (not sure the pedal attaches the same?), has anyone actually pulled this off or not worth the trouble (not sure how often the abs system fails on these jeeps)

ok heres a new rumor late 90s brakes can be retrofitted to earlier cherokees does anyone have the details does it pertain to abs or regular brakes

okay problem solved!!!!!! heres what you do call chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 they will run your vin number if your vechile is part of their recall (theres a couple, worth the time!) they start a folder for you and give you a reference number. you make an appointment at a local jeep service center for the repairs, they cover the entire job, labor and everything 10 minutes on the phone got me 1500 worth of repair work happy days in the mud soon to come hopefully this will help anyone else with this problem oh yeah by the way the abs is guarranteed for life so it takes care of future problems too !!!!!!! :icon16:

I am in the process of changing my 89 abs to 88 regular, I will keep everybody posted. Now is the time, my pump doesnt' work either and it was my parts guy who suggested it to me, says the change over is becoming pretty common.
