And as for the Viper not being able to do didly squat. Must I remind you of the GTS-R that goes 0-60 in 2.8 seconds, does the slalom at 192 MPH, and on the skidpad holds well over 1G. Right out of the crate it produces arounf 750HP and 750 torque. The same block is used for top fuel drag racing which is around 6000-7000HP. Lets see you get that out of a Skyline or Supra engine block. flylwsi 02-28-2002, 02:09 PM note to nsx... the s2k is the highest n/a production engine hp/l. the motor he is talking about is obviously an f/i application, which makes sense, b/c we are talking skylines here. that is also aftermarket f/i. hp/l is kinda irrelevant for f/i cars, for one the hp/l number usually means high compression and high revs, high compression in a motor isnt bad, but a f/i motor w/ high comp (from the pistons/combustion chamber) will blow up, since the turbo or s/c ups the compression there... the other note here is that all of these hypercars from japan are supermodded, compared to the viper that polygon is defending, which is fairly stock, and still outruns these things... and once it is modded, get outta the way... and the 50 hp/l thing... imagine if that motor had 100 per liter stock? does it need it? nope. 500hp from a viper is good enough for me thanks. 327belair 02-28-2002, 05:18 PM those top fuel motors are a hell of a lot bigger than 528ci, its the same block, but its bored and stroked as much as physically possible, i dont know what displacement they use, but im sure it is well over 800ci, but even then, the hp/l ratio is amazing NSX-R-SSJ20K 02-28-2002, 06:54 PM note to you haters of imports and skylines I'm sick of this anti skyline and import shit and note i really think you're wasting perfectly useful time at doing something else This is quite pathetic go away i shall not be posting again on this thread as it is utterly pointless nice one whoever made this thread was quite the retard considering i really am not a car expert and i'm glad that my opinion meant as much as it did it shows how utterly pathetic you guys are this thread will now be closed by a mod Have a nice day :finger: NSX-R-SSJ20K 02-28-2002, 06:55 PM Originally posted by Polygon The 528 Hemi is a large block V8 made by Chrysler. The Viper Venom 800 exists, but it sucks (and it by the way does the 0-60 in 3.1 according to Dodge....somehow, only Hennessey himself could get his claimed 2.4s). The engine has an extremely high failure rate because of a mismatch with the f/i and compression rate. By the way, the same 55,000 dollars that buys the engine upgrade kit, would buy you a 1100HP (at least) Skyline. Top Secret only spent 31k on their 1053HP car...and it includes brake, suspension, body, rim, and tire upgrades. The very same Brembo brake UPGRADES Hennessey recommends for the Viper come STOCK on the R34. Hennessey himself blew up four of his engines quarter-miling. Not to mention the suspension isn't upgraded which makes the car extremely unstable coming out of turns. It maybe a fast car from A to B in a straight line....but that's all it's good for. And before you start flames , i'd love to have a skyline it's one of my favourite cars of all the time... But it is overhyped , it takes so much attention in the US or Europe , because of the wonderful engine and superb handling , but also because you can't simply go to a dealer and buy a skyline... It's true belive me... And about handling... still around 600 hp porsche turbos and GTs are the fastest on the tracks... Gtr2.7L 03-01-2002, 04:29 PM Nope...38g's will buy you a brand new 2002 GTR VSpecII with all the trimmins. If you want the special Nur Edition, it's 45,000 USD.....but it's not the best version if you're going to be using it for the track as it's heavier than it's predecessors and has the same power. It's a closeout series....a collectors item. The M-Spec is 42,000 and the only difference between it and the VSpecII is Leather interior, a badge, and a suspension designed for comfort rather than track. Many of you say it's hyped because they're hard or extremely expensive to get.....but there is no hype over the Z06 in Japan, or Mustang SVT. According to your logic, there should be. Why? Because they already KNOW they have THE production car....CHEAP and POTENT. flylwsi 03-01-2002, 06:24 PM your simple dollar to dollar price tag conversion doesnt seem to fit... why? b/c if they were available, the price would be way higher b/c of the cost of all the testing for emissions and crash testing to get it here and that filters down into the price. also... yes, i could get one for 45k american. then i have to get it here, and do all of the compliance conversions so i can drive it on the street. that is roughly 25k. hmm... so this car isnt so cheap now... and if it did make it here, which it wouldnt b/c the turbos are in the way of where the steering would go to make it left hand drive, it would be more expensive period. nsx price range. also... the zo6 and cobra are not hyped over there b/c of gas prices as far as i can see. its hard to get phenomenal gas mileage out of a big v8 car... compared to the straight six. also... the jdm market does not seem to favor v8 cars at all, and it is rare to see one over there that is modded, a corvette for example. the last reason i have for why we know more about the skyline hype is because of the gas crunch. we all found out about imports b/c we needed something that wasnt a gas guzzler. then we found out that they could be made quick. so does someone in japan really want a monster motor gas guzzler over their efficient mobiles? get what im sayin... TatII 03-01-2002, 07:42 PM well i wouldn't exactly call a skyline gt-r fuel efficient. if your lucky you can squeeze about 200miles out of each fill up. Well, you need to look into stuff more before you go after me like this. 1. The GTS-R goes 0-60 in 2.8 seconds. The car you are thinking of is called the GT2. There is only ONE type of GT-R that has been produced. They merely put GTS-R stickers on the car but it is officially called the Viper GT2, and yes the GT2 goes 0-60 in 3.8. 2. Motor Trend also got 2.3 seconds with the Venom 805. They werent shit, even though Hennessy is gone. Why would Dodge release numbers on a car they don't sell? You can't buy on from a dealership, you have to take you GTS to get it modified; which voids the warranty. 3. As for the Skyline being faster on the Nurburgring track, I have heard that the F1LM is faster, the GTS is faster, the Skyline is faster. I don't know which to believe. I want numbers and sheets and proven facts, HARD EVIDENCE of which one is before I will give a damn about that track. Blackbird01 03-02-2002, 12:55 AM Blah blah blah. Skyline this... Viper that... Who the fuck cares. Are Skylines mass imported here in the States? No. Are Hennessey Vipers mass produced? No. I just read this and laugh. Psman32@af 03-02-2002, 07:22 PM Gtr2.7L, you are mistaken in saying that a viper's suspension is not upgradable. It isn't why would teh stock viper get .92 g's on a skid pad, when I have seen modded Vipers pull over 1.05 G's?. If you want proof, I still have the Motor Trend mag. Yeah that number was achieved by Motortrend along with a 9.99 second 1/4 with street legal tires. I don't remember the G's it could pull, but ill look it up later. Also for top fuel dragsters being over 800 CI, last I knew the rules stated the displacement couldnt be more than 500 CI. That was last year, they could have changed it though. Also, the blowers on Top Fuel dragsters take about 1000 hp just to turn, but this was takenfrom last year and could be different now. Gtr2.7L 03-02-2002, 09:27 PM I didn't say the Viper's suspension wasn't upgradeable....I said that the Venom package that was 55,000 dollars didn't INCLUDE a suspension upgrade....or brake upgrade for that matter! Here is the info I found on your GTS-R concept.... http://www.auto.com/2000autoshow/stories/viper13_20000113.htm That's a Reuters supported site....so the information is pretty accurate. Hennessey's work did not void the warranty. Read that very same article in Motortrend. Hennessey worked as a subsidiary for Dodge in addition to his other endeavors as Hennessey Motorsports. Actually, the F1LM WAS faster than both the GTR and the Porche GT2....but as I mentioned, McClaren's cars were not given a production status by the Nurburgring's governing board. The GTS and GTR were. Here....notice the graph at the bottom of this page....See who's on the page for stock cars? Skyline GTR 7:59....it's followed by the M-3. http://www.autonetperformance.com/blitz/article.htm In 1998, the Porche GT2 took the lead with a 7:56 Here check this page....... http://autozine.kyul.net/html/Porsche2.htm and look under the Porche GT3 portion....it talks about the record of the GT2 (and even mentions some say the Skyline GTR is faster). ALL THIS is the reason for the Hype! It's one HELLUVA car for 5.1 million Yen (38,000 USD)! Gtr2.7L 03-04-2002, 03:51 PM I thought I would get at least one taker..... Tom_S8 03-04-2002, 04:28 PM SO after all what's the conclusion? You can get 2.3 or whatever 0-60 with vipers , you can get a 13.75s 0-300 Skyline , but when it comes to overall performance at the track , there PORSCHE OWNS Y'ALL :finger:  Blackbird01 03-04-2002, 04:55 PM Wow. A Skyline costs $42,000 USD for the Ultra Super Duper ABC Spec Type R model? How much does it cost to bring it here and make it street legal? I guess that's why a brand new R34 costs over $80,000 to have imported and converted to pass US Emissions standards. I don't see what the big fuss is.... I'm not taking either side here, but I just thought I'd let you know that the Hennessey Viper that went 9.89 is now faster. It went 9.60's I believe on a full road race suspension and the driver, S.W., had to granny shift. He was afraid to break stuff. Viper half-shafts aren't cheap! Gtr2.7L 03-09-2002, 12:59 PM Negative...Motorex "charges" 27,000 to import and convert.....that's not what it costs. If Nissan were to do it, the car would sell for around 45k U.S. The left hand drive issue is nill. The car CAN be made left hand drive without moving the turbos....yet ANOTHER GTR myth...along those lines, the car itself doesn't need to be altered to meet US emissions....only a reprogramming of the ECU to compensate for the increase in sulfur byproducts in US grade gasoline. Most of the cost involved photographing, documenting, and filing the paperwork on each individual car, a process which, if the car was mass produced for U.S. sale would be unneccessary and would add almost no cost to the value of the car. You can't import a "Brand New" R34 into the U.S. legally. Since Motorex is the only company who can legally import, and they have to go through the CARB, no vehicle newer than 2 years old may enter the United States and be legally registered. The newest GTR (the Nur edition) wouldn't cost any more than importing it to the U.S. as it's a limited edition vehicle (only 1000 produced). It would only require filing and approval of the appropriate paperwork, which I believe Motorex has done. So you could by the Nur edition for less than 50,000 in the U.S. ...and about the Porche...yes, I would have to concede the fact that the 175,000 USD Porche GT2 was 3 seconds faster around the Nurburgring than the 38,000 USD GTR. Kind'of a poster child for inefficiency though...wouldn't you say?:) Polygon 03-09-2002, 01:14 PM Originally posted by Gtr2.7L I didn't say the Viper's suspension wasn't upgradeable....I said that the Venom package that was 55,000 dollars didn't INCLUDE a suspension upgrade....or brake upgrade for that matter!
