Hey all you Teg experts! I need to replace my alternator. Do I have to remove the half shaft or is there a way to get it out without doing this? I am also having a tough time getting the alt. off of the bracket. Chilton states I remove the bracket with the alternator. True? Any recommendations?

Thanks!

This should apply to your car as well but it is from my 95 teg. Take the bottom mounting bolt out, the one that goes through the bracket. Then loosen the upper adjusting nut, rotate the alternator up and then tighten the adjusting bolt to hold it up. Then remove the lower bracket, after that remove the adjusting bolt and let the alternator come out. You may or may not have to remove the upper bracket also. But you need to remove the brackets by themselves ann not attached to the alternator. Hope this helps.

hello,
i replaced my alternator in my 91 integra ls and believe me it was a pain in the butt. You have the take the axle spindle off, pry the driverside axle shaft out with a pry bar. Then you have to take the pivot bolt off ( top bolt ) then you need to remove the mounting bolt off the mount. then in order to remove it you are going to have to take the alternator mount off. there are 3 bolts. one on the bottom, one on the left, and one on the right, then the alternator should drop right out. When you put it back on have someone hold it from the top so that you can but the mount back on then do the reverse. Make sure that when u tighten the pivot bolt, that you have the belt really really tight. If you dont then it will squeal really loud when you turn. And if you dont have it tightened enough it could snap the belt off and out goes your alternator, power steering.

any questions just email me @ hotshizzit619@hotmail.com and i will scan the page out of my repair manual.
