How Should I Replace Parking Light Bulb?

Both the front parking lights on my '99 Tacoma were burned out. I bought the replacement bulbs, but couldn't figure out how to access the sockets. None of the rear access, under hood, inside fender options seemed feasible. So, finally, on one side, I pried the yellow lens out of the larger clear lens. I almost cracked the yellow lens (it seemed to be partially glued in) but I got it out, changed the bulb, and pushed it back into the clear lens where it has stayed put.
I'm waiting to do the other side because I think there must be a more elegant way to do this. Any suggestions? Thanks.
