K&N install. Shocking results.miket 06-08-2001, 02:00 AM Can't take the chaff on XOC anymore. Nice to find another site. Anyway, I popped the K&N filter (33-2031-2) into my V6 M/T. It seemed well seated and sealed. The increase in throttle response and increase in power, especially below 2000 RPM, was WAY more than I expected. The engine sounds a lot different too. Jokingly to myself I thought, I wonder if it's that responsive cause the filter isn'tsealed and air's getting sucked around the filter. When engine braking down a steep hill at 3000-3200 RPM it's way whinier than before. It's less throaty sounding and more breathy sounding. So, I thought I heard a hiss. Low and behold, popping the lid at home, there's a hiss from somewhere around the cylinder that's closest to the passenger seat. I dunno if it's normal, maybe it's something spinning I hear, but it sure sounds like a vacuum leak. WTF? mikeT Philosopher 06-08-2001, 01:47 PM Originally posted by miket Can't take the chaff on XOC anymore. Nice to find another site. "Chaff" That's a good one. Quite appropriate. :) When engine braking down a steep hill at 3000-3200 RPM it's way whinier than before. It's less throaty sounding and more breathy sounding. So, I thought I heard a hiss. I have a couple odd noises that come and go in my dashboard and from under the hood but nothing that has me really concerned yet. miket 06-11-2001, 12:43 PM Well, the dealer agrees it sounds like a vacuum leak. I'm not sure whether the noise was there before I popped in the K&N. I'll probably swap back to the paper just so they have nothing to whine about when I get it serviced tommorow. It would be strange for the filter to pop off a hose on the other side of the engine. mikeT miket 06-19-2001, 05:35 PM Well, no leak. The K&N makes a nice improvement in the throttle response and boosts power just a bit. It's boosted just enough to not have to downshift going uphill when you'd normally expect to. As for installation: the directions I got were for a Pathfinder. The filter fits anyway. Ignore the part about pulling out the tray. When you're placing the cover back on the box, you just gotta wiggle it around a bit so the edges of the cover and are flush with the bottom of the box. mikeT Pritch28 12-23-2003, 02:33 PM Well, no leak. Pritch28 12-29-2003, 02:03 PM Haha...no, i didn't notice the date on his post. Guess i won't be hearing from him. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
