90 Touring Sedan climate woes.

I recently purchased a 1990 Oldsmobile Touring Sedan in fantastic condition. The only problems I have are minor, the steering controls and the Twilight Sentinel don't work. Those are no biggie but the main problem is with the climate control. The blower works intermittedly. When you start the car sometimes it will start blowing and if you park, turn it off and start again later, it won't come on. Then later on it will fire up. My guess is some relay is getting stuck.

I am having similar problems with my climate control system on a 1989 Ninety Eight. Like you , the controls on the steering pad are not operating. This is when I started having intermittant blower operation as well. I removed the fan to see if the motor was blowing air. It was blowing like crazy but I still don't get much airflow coming from the various vents inside the car. I also posted this info on this forum close to the time you did but have had no replies or suggestions. If there is someone out there who knows what the problem might be, please post it. You'll be able to help two people now with one reply.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I have a 1989 Touring Sedan, and I know that there was a recall or TSB on the steering wheels. I never had any problems with my Climate Control, but the Bose stereo would only play out of the right side speakers from time to time.

After several trips to the radio repair shop under warranty, the dealer finally determined that my steering wheel needed to be reworked, and they sent it in to have it done. Since then, no radio problems. I recall at the time the service rep told me this same thing could also cause intermittent Climate Control problems.

Not sure if this is your trouble, but it might be a place to start checking. I've kept this car longer than any other I've had, and I still love it. I've only put around 84,000 miles on it to date, so it's led an easy life compared to some of them.

I've had the same intermittant blower operation in my '90 98, but mine is the automatic system that does not have the steering controls. Sometimes the flow is strong, sometimes weak, and sometimes nonexistant. It seems to act up more frequently in cold weather (of course). I have been thinking about checking the relay and all of the electrical connections, but if anybody has a better idea I'm interested
