Hi Everyone Ram Air 02-21-2002, 03:16 PM
Could someone Help me I am Going to buy a 1999 or 2000 trans am ram air BLack. I want to put a turbo on it or super charger. What is the benefit of each and what is fast and less maintanance? Also Before I do that should I do something else first to make it fast? I am new :flash: Firebird 02-21-2002, 10:19 PM the most important thing to do to make hp is to work on intake and exhaust. My suggestion is to first get a K&N or other high flowing reusable air filter, also a good free flowing exhaust (headers, mufflers, catylitic converter, and manderel bent pipe). next a good intake thats nice and polished then get the heads ported and polished. after doing all of the above you'd be talkin' around $2000 if you did it all your self, and you'd easily be making 150hp or so then I would supercharge or turbo, there are lots of things you got to do b/4 you get s/c'ed but I don't know what all that is, anyone else know? but all of the mods I mentioned should be a really good start. have fun good luck on your purchase. :D Firebird 02-21-2002, 10:25 PM oh and after doing all of the first things I'd get a nice cam, and after that it all depends on where you want to go (I'm assuming you are making something you can drive everyday and not a full blown race car) so watch your gas mileage when it comes to cams and intakes. also watch out make sure you stay emissions leagal (if your area does that stuff.) :) P.S. oh yea, Welcome to the forum :D Ram-Air 02-23-2002, 12:00 AM On the intake though I have ram air so it is not like a cone or anything the filter so what should I get? So filter then exhaust ( should't I decide what exhaust by what turbo/supercharger im getting first?) By the way 2000 dollars is not bad but the problem is I have never even change my oil! LOL I want to do it myself but I do not know how. BOOooo I wish I did :flash: Ram-Air 02-23-2002, 12:10 AM I am sick and tired of hearing my friends talk about there wimpy import cars and how more power out of a smaller engine is better. They are all in that fast and furious shit. One of my friends has a twin turbo 300 gt vr4. My other friend the new rsx with intake and my other friend WRX. I need to beat the vr4 though he has intak exhaust and two turbos. Thx for help firbird do you think I could beat them with all that stuff you think I should put on? Also my other friend is getting a supra help me please LOL What 1/4 mile time firbirtd would I run with that stuff on ? High elevation too not sea level . BoOOOoo THx :flash: -cy- 02-23-2002, 01:07 AM With all the work he mentioned (intake, exhaust, heads, cams, ect.) AND say.....a twin turbo.....you'd somke those cars you listed, unless some of them are completly decked out. Firebird 02-23-2002, 01:31 PM yeah if you did all of the mods i listed you'd easily be looking at mid 12's if not 11's at least on a good launch. I really don't know a whole lot about supercharging or turbos as far as how to install them cause I never have (but would love too:devil: ) exhaust is pretty easy, as long as the kit you get is direct replacement (which will be easy to find for that make and model.) cams usually require a lot of work because of it's place in the engine you have to take off almost everything. and probably take the engine out of the car. heads, you can get kits to port and polish them for like $50 but you will want to practice on junk heads first before you do your own. headers for a car of that year will not be cheap easily $400 if not more they will also require a lot of work to put on. as far as the air filter goes I don't know exactly what they look like put if you look in a K&N or other companies parts mag I'm sure youll find a filter that will work. if you can, try and ask Blackbird, he posts here every so often, because he has a car from around that year and he seems to know his stuff. good luck. Firebird 02-23-2002, 01:36 PM oh yeah and as far as doing some of the easier stuff (changing oil, air filter, ect.) I suggest that you get a Chiltons manuel for that specific model they have easy to follow step by step instructions and pictures to help you out. they make working on anything soooo much easier. :) Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
