Once the car is well beyond warranty, what portions of the major services (running $600-700) are important for vehicle maintenance and what is cosmetic or comfort (ie micro filter changes). Any advice on what is appropriate service items for value for a car that I plan to keep long term. Is it reasonable to choose items for service "a la carte"?

Oil, oil, oil, transmission.... the rest is really BS.
