I think 95 was the last year for the fd in the US and you can have a newer model imported to the US but it has to meet US crash standards, emisions, and a few other things I think.

You can look at some auto importer sites and they can give you more info on what all it takes to import a rhd fd to the US, or if you're lucky you might stumble across one that has already been imported, chances are slim that you could find one but I'm sure there are some out there.

you can also convert a lhd to a rhd car, and get the 99' spec bumper/rear tails

yes but you dont normally get quality when you do a drivers hand side swap they normally do dodgy jobs on them i know by some experiences with friends cars.. they had to re do the driver hand side swaps

you can have it done right, the fact your friends got screwed is not a valid factor

anyway, rhd Fds have issues with steering colums in the way of a potential future big single turbo
+ i like to shift with my right hand, and im the type of guy who thinks that if its not going to make you faster, dont get it

USDM 1993-1995 FD3S
255 flywheel horsepower
217 lbs of torque
~2850 dry weight
Models: touring (PEP/PEG) and R1

JDM 1998-2002 FD3S
280 flywheel horsepower
~255 lbs of torque
2700-2900 dry weight (depending on model)
Models: RZ, TypeR, BathurstR, Mazdaspeed
different front bumper, lip, racing bucket seats, badges, steering wheel, rear spoiler, better turbos, better ECU maps, BBS 17" wheels, lighter, stronger, and faster.

Motorex in Los Angeles should be able to import you one and legally change everything to US standards for you (glass, emissions, air bags). I've already inquired before, you're looking around $80,000 - 100,000 for all modifications and legality depending on the model and availability. No BS.

(in the part where you discuss the american 7's you forgot the R2)

yeah 80-100k whereas you can buy an fd thats already here for as low as 14k (possibly lower)

i'm sure japimportusa can ship over a Series 8 RX7 for you but I HIGHLY DOUBT that they can get it legally driven for you in the US.

Motorex is one of the few only companies in the US to legally get JDM cars to be driven in the US. It takes a lot of money plus time to do on the work. Also, DOT tests are required. So a demo car is used for DOT crash tests. That is why the prices for a legal imported JDM car is soo high.
