1999 DOHC w/ 128,000

Getting 325 - 350 miles per tank w/ K&N filter, depending on using air conditioning or not. manufactured 9.21.1999 I think one of the last ones off the line. I'd like to know...=D

A semi I was near Sunday had a tire decentigrate and I couldn't get out of the way. The piece of his tire hit me mid-line and basicly made the contents of the catylitic converter into mechanical mush.

Its been fixed, but I'm burning fuel MADLY. Only at 200 miles and only have quarter tank left.

Could they have put a CAT on the car that was to small and is causing this? not enough air flow?

I would love to hear from anyone who has had to replace this, or from someone who replaces these components.

Have had thoughts on upgrading the exhasut to compliment the K&N filter for more horsepower...has anyone done this??

Did they weld a cat onto the y-pipe, or replace the entire y-pipe? Did they replace the O2 sensors?

If your cat was so small as to have that large of an impact on mileage, you would have very little power, right off of idle. You'd punch the gas and the car would struggle to accellerate. Is this the case?

It typically takes the computer a week to reset (they would have disconnected the power to remove the y-pipe or weld on a new cat), but 250mpg/tank seems rather low.

Did you get the number of the truck that blew the tire? If so, you can have them pay to get your car back into order, including fixing gas mileage.

I have done some reading on this and i am not sure but there are two diffrent kinds of coverters. They should have matched the one that was on your car to the one they took off by matching up the epa numbers. I really dont know how to put this I dont know that much about it myself but I know there are two diffrent kinds of converters. check this site out it will tell you alot more than i can. If this works out for you let me know I cant seem to find people who know alot about this. DREW www.autorepair.about.com and click on how stuff works. write me back at twocooldrew@yahoo.com
