Tie rods connect your steering rack to the wheels. If they fail you are going to wreck. Take it to another shop for thier opinion before having it done, or have the shop show you what's wrong with them before replacing. If they can demonstrate noticeable movement, not just pivoting, but actual up and down slop, they are bad. The isolators I'm assuming they mean for the springs, cause some weird noises when bad, but no safety concerns that I know of.

I agree with Jeffcoslacker, if your tie rods break, your front wheels will go whichever direction they please when it breaks. Unfortunately, (I used to work in a tire and alignment shop) Tie rods in luminas go out all the freakin' time, and you need a special really long deep socket to replace them, then you need to have the car aligned.

i also agree steering isn't something you wait on if some is gone that deals with your steering you should replace it before you end up in a ditch or something
