Need help with this problem please. 1998 Honda Accord LX V6 Coupe with 87000 miles engine ticks pretty loudly when at warm idle, speed increases with rpms. Doesn't seem to do it at cold start-up and haven't noticed any other symptoms, good gas mileage and oil good. Is this most likely loose valves, something else? What is potential for engine damage?

Ticking from valves tends to go away or get quieter when the engine warms up. Where in the engine bay is the ticking comming from?

Thanks. All I can say right now is that it seems to be coming from inside engine, maybe could call it almost a tapping sound not noticeable when inside car but very much so when you step out the door and definitely not there when engine cold.

Well open the engine and give it a rev with your hand. You shoudl be abel to somewhat locate the area of the noise. Sounds to me like you may have bad valve clearance, or possibly a bad lifter(s)
