Camshaft timing

I have a 1996 2.2L Chevrolet Corsica...Does anyone have EXACT procedures..maybe a diagragm of how to set the camshaft to the crankshaft. Crankshaft gear DOES have the timing mark...but the old gear does not??? The new replacement gear does not have a dot on it either? PLEASE HELP ME!!!! Email any info to moldbuildr@comcast.net. You may just have to look a little closer to find the timing mark. It seems kinda odd that they would make a timing sprocket without marks on it. Just look a little closer. Other than that you just line up the marks.

I found out from the local parts store that the timing marks are small tabs located on the chain tensioner. Align the crank mark to the tab (10 o'clock position) and align the small drilled hole in the cam sprocket with the tab(5 o'clock position). Crank should be a TDC on #1 cylinder. Engine started right up...purrs like a kitten....AND did not bend any valves in the process.

Ya got lucky there. I really dont like the design of most engines because of that. I think you just shouldnt have to worry about pistons crashing into the valves if the timing chain goes.
