A good repair manual should have decent instructions, but if you don't feel comfy with it, it is best to let a shop take care of it. You have to be sure that the back-lash between the crown and pinion are set properly afterwards, or they will destroy each other in time. You can buy a complete rebuild kit (shims included), or buy the parts separately as you need them.

If you pull your axles again, take off the diff cover and drain the oil, you can undo the 4 bolts holding the side bearings in place. The carrier will come out with a little coaxing. Note the side where each of the bearing caps came from and catch the bearing races and any shims that come out. Keep the parts separate for each side. you can inspect the side bearings this way and if ok, you can roll the carrier back in without any need for adjustments by putting the races and any shims back where they came from.

Torque the bearing caps to the spec in your new manual add cover with RT, put in gear oil and your away.

Thanks sas, I just had one downloaded to me. Looks like the diff is fine, the problem either lyes in defective hub assemblies or suspension problem. Just had it aligned, everything is good. New ball joints. Drives great, everything is tight, still cracks though on a slow mild to sharp turn. Still running with the frnt ds out, need to reinstall tonight.

:banghead: :shakehead I can not seem to get the dana link to work for the diagram, maybe I just don't have enough computer skills to operate the dana site for the d30 diagrams & info for the rebuild. ANY help with this would be greatly appreciated :crying:
