How do I replace the motor blower on a 2000 Grand Prix. I see some listings but don't know if they also apply to the 200 Grand Prix specifically - also I am looking for a diagram of where this would be under the dash. Anyone have this information or can point me in the right direction of the diagram?

Your talking about the heater motor?

the blower motor is located under the dash on the passenger side, just above where the passenger's right foot rests. It is retained by 3 bolts.

Kevin J:
You did not specify a reason why you are changing the motor, I would be interested in knowing. kustomkid54 gave an excellent link Big-l gives all the details and I documented my repair. If the ignition switch is the culprit, it is easily repaired. If you need instruction to do this, Big-l provides it. I repaired mine after replacing it with a new one. I was doing my repair on a Saturday and my local GM parts Dept. was closing within the hour. Instead of risking the car being out of service until Monday morning, I gave in and rushed over to by a new one and repaired the old one after; live and learn. You can buy a new one at GM parts direct for about half the $125.00 dealer parts price.

Kevin J,

I just did this last week in my 2000 gp, I read a bunch of posts and determined by the symptoms I was experiencing that it was the blower motor resistor. I pulled out the blower motor and then removed the blower motor resister. I had gone to GM and bought a new one that was $35 Canadian before I took the car apart, when I got mine out it was different. Because I have the duel climate control the resistor was over $300. I determined that it was in fact the blower motor it self even though it had the symptoms on the blower motor resister problem. The point of this is save yourself some time, aggravation and money by testing the blower itself before you remove the resistor, the motor was $100 Canadian. I am NOT a mechanic and I really don't enjoy working on cars I just am a compulsive problem solver, I found it very difficult to remove the back two screws for the resistor, so don’t remove it if you don’t have to!

Kevin J,

Does the blower motor only work on certain speeds?? If so, the blower motor is not the problem. I had the same problem on a friends 01 G/P and we thought it may be the blower motor switch. We called the dealer to get a price on the switch and they told us that the problem may be the blower motor resistor. We checked the resistor and sure enough that was it. I found this site that sells oem gm parts at wholesale prices (gm-car-parts.com) and we bought it from there. Had it shipped to us and it fixed the problem. Good Luck!

I work at a AC-Delco distributor in Michigan, and can send you that resistor for $13.41 + shipping. The shipping for UPS ground should be around $5 or so, depending on where you are. The motor I would need more info on, such as whether you have manual or climate control A/C.

I read your post about possibly getting a blower motor resister for a good price. I have 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix and need to replace the blower resister. The dealership wants to charge me $40+ You think I can somehow place an order for one?

Big-L, I can sell them to you for $4.90 a plug, plus shipping. We ship UPS and I would be happy to help you on anything you need. :)
