'92 4 Runner Rear Window Switch Problemnooge 10-15-2004, 12:12 PM My 1992 4 Runner V6 4WD outer rear tailgate electric window switch intermittently won't work and just makes a faint beep when you turn key to open it. However the inside console switch always works. When tailgate switch is doing this malfunction the dash light "rear window" also comes on. It flashes on & off while driving indicating the situation is coming & going. Tailgate is adjusted to close as tight as it should, and doesn't rattle while driving on rough roads. Note the car is kept in a remote part of Costa Rica and is always driven on rough dirt roads so vibration could be major factor to this problem but rattles and squeaks are constantly attended to. Is there an "open tail gate sensor" somewhere I can't find that is malfunctioning or possibly has a lose connection... or any other comments welcome. Muchas gracias. 4Wheel 10-25-2005, 01:56 PM There is a switch inside the door actually there are four one for each latch the upper limit (window closed) and the lock. You can actually roll the window out by "closing" locking each latch then the window will roll up or out of the door. WARNING YOU MUST SUPPORT THE GLASS IT WILL BREAK OUT OF ITS MOUNT WHEN FULLY EXTENDED!!! Then you can work inside the door cavity. It almost sounds like it just needs adjusting. This is also how you can easily repair any broken defroster wires. I had the EXACT same symptoms and it was a broken wire in the harness. The beeping is the main clue if it was the motor there would be no beep. the relay box is sensing that the door is still open when it beeps. It can also be the relay box that is the culprit. Check for these items on ebay a lot of "parts" can be found there. Good luck nooge 11-11-2005, 01:09 PM thanks a bunch, I'm thinking relay box from what you said. 4Wheel 11-11-2005, 02:35 PM Those unit are NOT cheap even used!
