adding in a taczlarson 10-14-2004, 05:16 PM ive got a 2000 2.2 w/ no tac. i found a stock gauge cluster that someone is selling and i was wondering if anyone knows if cavaliers are already wired for the tac and they just didnt put it on some models or would i have to wire my own tac? i think it would be too big of a hassle to have to wire my own, but if its already there then im going to go ahead and put it in. thanks. KustmAce 10-14-2004, 08:26 PM I had the same issue you do. Mine didnt come with a tach, but I got one from Sunpro and mounted it on my A-pillar. Its really pretty simple to install and wire up, though you might want to have a professional do it, if you dont feel confident. I can explain how to wire one if you want me to though. zlarson 10-15-2004, 02:00 PM could you please? KustmAce 10-15-2004, 02:18 PM Well, in your aftermarket tach, you should get four wires. One will be power. One will be ground. One will be for the backlight, which you just wire into your running lights. And the last one is the tap. This is where it gets tricky. On the 2.2L, the wires which recieve the rpm signal are at the back of the motor. However, there are two wires, One from each pair of cylinders. You need to buy an adapter which you use to tap both wires. Then you run the wire off the tach into that. My wires off the tach were only like 8 inches long though, so they needed to be extended. Like I said, you might want to have a professional do it, because obviously its not that simple. If you have any more Q's, let me know. zlarson 10-15-2004, 02:27 PM hey thanks a lot. one of my buddies could probably do this for me. he does all his own work to his Cobra. again thanks a lot. Blime16 10-30-2004, 02:50 AM I am going to be putting in a tach shortly myself, I have a 95 cavi. It did not come stock with one. I was told that I have to get a tach addaptor before I can install the tach, Is this right? 01Cavy 10-30-2004, 11:35 AM If you buy a stock cluser from a junk yard with a tac in it, could you wire it to work the same way? KJRich 10-31-2004, 08:08 AM If you buy a stock cluser from a junk yard with a tac in it, could you wire it to work the same way? Yep, just swap 'em, no special re-wiring needed. Try to get the same year as your car, though, like for example don't put a '96 in a '01 car, they're different. 01Cavy 10-31-2004, 12:18 PM THanks...i'm going to look into that! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
