What other motor will fit in a 91,2.2 litre rs cavalier/Standard?Social Anxiety Guy 10-13-2004, 04:47 PM Here is the deal my current engine has for some reason given birth to a LOUD knocking noise and i've been told it's either the conecting rod in cylindar 4 or the bearings OR BOTH. So on Saturday or Sunday im going to the wreckers to find a used motor and listen to it run first then pull it out and put it into my car. What I would like to know is if it's possable to put in a 91 pontiac sunbird engine with the same specs as my car? Just wondering if the mounting positions/electrical will all line up and shit. My car is a 91-2.2 litre 4 cylindar standard cavalier. Thanks for yer help folks. :smokin: Social Anxiety Guy 10-19-2004, 04:19 PM Nobody have an answer? Basicly this weekend im going to the wreckers and im wondering what other year cavalier engine will go in my 91 and wether er not a sunbird engine will go in and if so what years will be good. I don't want to go below 1990 so will a 92-93 engine still work? My 91 is fuel injection BTW... :screwy: godenm 10-19-2004, 04:22 PM the 91 sunbird a 2.2 also? 4dr92cavi4cyl 10-19-2004, 04:28 PM I had the same problem with my 92 after 180K, found another 2.2 and had it installed for about $600. As far as using a motor other than a 91 2.2, it's possible, but you'll probably need the matching computer and wiring harness. I'd drop a 350 and a rear end in it but that's a lot of work, seen one done though! godenm 10-19-2004, 04:38 PM i built a 95 civic v-8 350 rwd! built my own frame, used 4 link in rear ,& fired it up & moved it acouple times and still havent finished the car... makes for a good conversation piece when people come in my garage.!!!! Social Anxiety Guy 10-19-2004, 06:43 PM Ya the sunbird engine will also be a 2.2 litre. So im either going to buy a cavalier engine or a sunbird engine that is a 91 2.2 litre. Im going to try and get a cavalier engine, but if a sinbird runs better i will go with that. :2cents: vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
