Wiper problemskaroni 10-13-2004, 01:35 AM I have a chevy s10 and the wipers quit only when it rains. I contacted chevy and mine isn't one that is being recalled. I have changed the motor module and now the delays don't work. Any help on what the problem might be. I have put 2 new motor modules in it and neither one worked. bigblackone 10-13-2004, 07:59 AM I think there might be two modules ... one with and one without delay rustbucket 10-13-2004, 08:23 AM Make sure the motor has a good ground contact. It connects through one of the mounting bolts, make sure it is clean. OverBoardProject 10-13-2004, 12:24 PM Don't you know that Chevy made dry window only wipers as a very desirable option. Your truck is worth thousands more!!! Thanks for the info on there being 2 modules Bigblackone, there seem to be a lot of people trying to change to the delayed system, and I just didn't know. dmbrisket 51 10-17-2004, 12:30 AM when mine did that it was my ground wire BlazerLT 10-17-2004, 12:46 AM or the delay circuit shorting out. jhickman 10-17-2004, 06:33 PM My wipers do this too. What is the recall and where do I find out about it? Dave_Calif 10-22-2004, 08:15 PM Here's the story: The 96-97 wiper modules are under a recall. Go to http://www.recall-warnings.com and you can look up recalls on just about everything, including cars. The 98 is not on a recall. I called Chev at 800-222-1020 opened a "service request number", then was transferred to Customer Service who tell you it isn't recalled. But when you tell them its a safety issue on the 97 (which it is) and the 98 does the same thing they called the dealer and I just brought it in and he swapped out the wiper module for free. It does take some talking and a few comments about I was driving down the freeway in the rain and the wipers just stopped. They seem to be much more concerned!! Now the interesting part, the delay didn't work properly after they replaced the module, it never did the first swipe of the wipers but did do the delay if you waited. They brought me over to another 98 and it did the same thing. I researched the part numbers and what they did was put a 96-97 wiper module in my 98. So now they are getting me the proper module. The GM part number for the 96-97 is 12463090 The GM part number for the 98 is 12463039 Apparently they know where the modules are and just grab them out of the box and don't look up the year etc.. I just left the dealer and the parts guy said your right it is the worng module, and they didn't have the right one. But at least my wipers work now so I am waiting until they get the correct one in. Also the module for the 98 at Autozone was $80 and $100 at the dealer which is why I did the research, as now I got it for nothing. You never know Autozone could be handing out the wrong ones too. BlazerLT 10-22-2004, 08:23 PM Excellent site there. mar120suz 11-03-2004, 01:32 PM I have a 98 s10 that was ding the same thing I replace the wiper motor and every thing works great know. bigblackone 11-03-2004, 06:36 PM some great info here guys ... mine is a 94 so it really isn't limited to any particular model years ( maybe just the new body style?) 83XFIRE 11-04-2004, 02:30 PM my wipers went on the fritz and I just re-soldered the board in it and its fine now. Evaluate your problem first, cuz a no price solder job is better than 80 bucks at autozone. That was the problem with the board (what the recall was about), the solder points would crack. ALL GM trucks:full size and little, vans, anything with that same wiper motor had the problems. Everyone has pics on what to do and such, you just have to search. Or you could just try your luck with the stealership like Dave did, but I dont have any luck with them at all. BlazerLT 11-04-2004, 02:43 PM Where is this board you are talking about? I have a cavalier with the same setup that lost its delay and if I can solder it, I will. Could you post a picture of where it is? Fireplug 11-04-2004, 09:21 PM On the wiper motor there is a black plastic cover held on by 3 or 4 screws , the board is under that cover Mindjob360 11-06-2004, 03:29 AM take it back to the dealer their was a recall done for that problem in the 90's S-10's draggon 11-06-2004, 03:01 PM My S10 Blazer's relay in the colum broke and i was wondering how hard it would be to replace it by my self or whether i should get someone else to do it? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
