Im new, in restorationbill_yum 10-12-2004, 10:21 PM Hey, im new to the forum.. Really im new to anything internet related because i just havent put much time into learning anything about anything with computers. Feeling thats going to come back to haunt me. BUt Yeah, so im in the process of restoring a 1969 firebird with a 67 400 engine. Ive got the entire car apart right now, and am spraying it myself. Kinda screwed myself over with the timing (living in NH its cold to be spraying) but this weekend is the last coat. Then i start the reassembly. Does anyone here know about NH laws or any general bans on Glasspack mufflers?? Im thinking label it as an antique and its legal right? Ill have pictures when im closer to done. Im excited to have found this forum. Awesome MrPbody 10-13-2004, 08:51 AM Bill_yum, There are couple other sites that are Pontiac-specific, where you can get lots of good info on your car and the problems you may encounter. boyleworks.com (muscle cars) classicalpontiac.com performanceyears.com All three of these sites have excellent Q/A sessions. Nobody there will try to tell you you're wasting your time with the Pontiac. There are issues with pump gas and late '60s Pontiac engines. Compression ratio must be lowered or detonation WILL occur. For any specific questons, feel free to e-mail me direct. (cvms@cstone.net) bill_yum 10-13-2004, 07:47 PM [QUOTE=MrPbody]Bill_yum, There are issues with pump gas and late '60s Pontiac engines. Compression ratio must be lowered or detonation WILL occur. QUOTE] When you say detonation will occur, is this the same as "knocking" so the compression is actually blowing the gas before the plugs? I had heard that using higher octane gas could help with the problem, but i had not heard about it being a problem with later 60s pontiac engines. Thank you very much :) If i did need to lower the compression ratios, are there any simple ways of doing this, because it sounds complex. Ha ha, on the good side, now i know that there is no need for a supercharger on this if the compression is already high. If anyone wants a picture http://photobucket.com/albums/v411/bill_yum/Firebird/ i try to update with improvements. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
