I just bought a 95 jeep grand cherokee laredo and it didnt haev an owners manual to look at so i have a question about the car. The light of the overdrive off button is stuck on and when you push the button it doesnt go off which in turn doesnt turn overdrive off. Is there a specific way to turn it off or does it always have to be on?

the way the button works on mine is if the lite is off - od is on. lite on od is off

ther must be a failure that is keeping the od locked out

Think this will help.
From my experience (before and after rebuilt trans), the light comes on in my 93 when their is a problem to prevent the trans from going into overdrive. My problem was heat. The very little core in the radiator was clogged causing the trans to overheat. After a rebuild, the problem re-occured. The tranman put the error-reader on and showed me how high the temp. was. He said that that caused most of the problems. I purchased/installed an extra cooler in front of my radiator and by-passed the original one totally - problem went away.

Now, 2 years later, light is coming back on. This time I believe that it is a sensor that is intermitting.

hope this helps.

Lou
