In the past several months my air bag warning light stays on after I start the van. Sometimes when we shut the van off and restart it goes away but now it is staying on all the time. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this problem?

You should take this to a dealer for a look. If the light is on, the air bag is not working and you would have no air bag deployment or protection in a crash. This is probably something you don't want to mess with yourself.

The same thing started to happen to my 2000 Silhouette. Twice now the air bag light has stayed on but it eventually goes off after about 1/2 hour of driving. Did you have yours tested yet?

Thanks,
Mark

I connected/reconnected all the wiring harnesses under the seat and passenger side dash air bag along with checking all the fuses. Now not only is the airbag light on but so are the ABS and TCS lights after the fuse pull and replacement. Anyone have any clue?

I really hate to take it to the dealer and shell out the big bucks!!!!!!

Played around with the wiring/fuses some more. The TCS and ABS don't stay on anymore but the bag light is still lit. Haynes manual shows no wiring for the Airbag system.

Really would appreciate someone elses response if this has happened to them and how much it cost.

I have not had mine tested yet because the light has only come on two times. When I get a consistent light I will probably take it to the dealer to check. I don't think I would like to mess with the air bags as there are several in the van (including the side ones) and it is a very important safety component.

Well $200 out of pocket to the local GM dealer for what amounted to nothing except a broken wire in the passenger side seat belt circuit. Seems the belts are tied into the Air bag system. $69 an hour for dealer service is ridiculous. The connector & wiring should have never broken in the first place. Must have been defective product all along.

Be forwarned if this ever happens to anyone else, check your seat belt wires in the door posts along with the air bag ones.

Thanks for the info. The light has not come on again but I will keep this in mind.
