My gas gauge on my 4runner is NOT working. Some say its some sorta flotation sensor in the tank, I think there may be a wire not hooked up. The reason I believe this is, first is a blue wire hanging under my 4runner that runs from back where the tank is somewhere?? Secondly, I have NO low fuel light! Shouldn't my vehicle have a low fuel light?? Since I bought this used from a shiesty fellow I have no clue what's going on, but would really love to know if anyone knows perhaps what that blue wire is and where it's suppose to hook up to and am I or am I not suppose to have a low fuel light atleast?? Thank You for ANY inut at all.

There is a blue wire going from the fuel level sender through a condensor to ground.

One of my friends has a problem similar to this. I also posted this on the Dodge forum. She has a 95' Stratus and the fuel guage in on empty, and light is always on. Any ideas? And about that blue wire, I would try to find out what that leads to because its not safe to have "unprofessional" splices hanging under the car.

The blue wire leads from the circuit between the fuel level sender and the fuel gauge, through a condensor, to any chassis ground (at least in the 4Runner circuit I have).

The fact is, anyone can add a blue wire in anywhere.

Am I suppose to have a low fuel light??

There is no answer to that question. It would depend on what problems you have.

I have actually ran out of gas before because I over estimated the milage, no low fuel light ever came on. I'm just not sure if I'm even suppose to have a low fuel light on my dash anywhere

Look for a small gas pump near your fuel gauge. If you don't see one, you don't have one.

It's a 93 4runner. I DID see a little gas pump which is right above my gauge needle itself. Although..... I, myself cannot tell whether a light would come on, the lights on my dash are sorta digitilized
