Oil change meter

Hello
I was curious if anyone else noticed that the oil change percentage gauge a few presses below the odometer moves very slowly. So far, it hasn't been below 75% when I've done my regular scheduled maintenance. Even after a 6000 km trip through the deserts of Utah, Arizona and Nevada this past July, it didn't seem to move much.
I'm not putting much stock in what it tells me - I'll still do my changes on the regular 3000mi/5000km rotation, but I'm curious if anyone else has noticed this. I'm also curious if GM would honor their warranty should anything go wrong with the engine if this percentage was used to do the changes?
