Ok, me and my dad are taking apart my engine to replace the headgaskets, on the 3.4L engine, and we've hit a hard spot here. So if you guys know how to do this, it would help.

1. How do you disconnect the fuel lines and relieve the pressure on the fuel system?

2. We are trying to take off the part that says 3.4 SFI, but we can't get it off the engine, we've taken off all the bolts and screws we can see, but it still seems to be stuck somewhere, so could you tell me if there are any bolts that are hard to see, or list the places that the bolts need to be taken off.

I've got a Hayne's manual, but we can't find where in the book to get this information.

You need a special tool to disconnect the fuel lines from the rail. Any auto parts store should carry it and Haynes manual chapter 4 section 12 has everything your looking for or 4-12

P.S.- I bought the quick disconnect fuel line tool and still couldn't get them off so what I did was unbolted the rail and just left it connected sitting where the fuel line come into the engine compartment

How about the 3.4 SFI part?

I don't know that one as I don't have a 3.4 and never had to take one of those off.

wiggle the hell out of it and if it dont budge theres another bolt or something holding it on somewhere... so look closely

for clarity, the '3.4 sfi' part is called the intake manifold. its a two piece design, there's an upper and lower part. try to pry it up with a flat head screw driver, if it doesnt give than do as ridge said. look for all the bolts along the tunnel...

It may be too late, but: There a series of bolts for the upper intake manifold that have to be removed first, and it separates from the lower IM, which also has a series of bolts that must be removed, and then your looking at the top of the engine block.

Hey Xbox, I remember your thread from 6 weeks ago. We had the water-in-oil problem. Didn't know if it was the intake gasket, cracked head, cracked block. So we changed the intake mainifold gaskets w/o removing engine. Did not remove rods or rocker assemblies.

Results: Engine runs great now. The problem may have been caused by frozen thermostat. Changed waterpump, while access was easy.
We left the fuel lines connected and merely laid it to the side and proceeded with repair.
The fuel rail, which mounts to top of IM, was the most difficult thing to disconnect, since it has to be removed prior to the upper IM. It has to be pried out, creativity is the key.

isn't that upper part also knows as "plenum"?
