96 GCL FM RadioSkavball24 10-06-2004, 12:21 PM I hear that the stock cd player does not play burned cd's well, so that has been cleared up. But my FM tuner does not catch any stations, well at least 90% of the time its pure static. The AM is top notch, but I can only listen to so much 670. Is this just an antenna thing or is there something else I should know and/or try to alleviate this??? Godzilla.vs.Jeep 10-19-2004, 06:35 PM I've had the same problem for 2 years with the AM/FM/CD/Cassette/Eq deck. The FM comes on from time to time, and if I pull the deck and fiddle with it the FM works fine--soon as I put the trim back on FM goes out. I've heard this may have to do with the quality of the ground on the unit...but I've tested it and found no problem on the resistance on mine...as the CD feature has started to not give back CD's without a fight i'm just going to install another deck when I get the cash. btebbutt 10-25-2004, 04:23 PM I had that same problem in my 97 GC. The FM reception was nonexistent. I tried a new antenna and checking all the connections but nothing helped. I finally replaced the head unit with a nice Pioneer unit and it's awesome, great reception! I think the head unit just goes bad. taxman9 12-29-2004, 09:37 AM Ive had the same problem with my 96 JGC, I pulled out the unit, checked the ground, installed new antenae line and pole spot welded some things on the unit and the it worked for about 2 blocks when the FM went back out again. Does anyone kno whow to fix these or have any ideas, I am somewhat 'fruggle' and do not want to spend money on an entirely new head unit when the am, tape, and cd player all work great. If I do buy a new one I have a feeling this one is going to get 'blown' up with a quarter stick. jdennis 12-29-2004, 04:44 PM I have the same exact thing with my '96 JGC. It won't play burned CD's, and won't play new ones a lot of the time either. The FM stereo would come on about 1 out of 10 times I tried it, but would pop and distort and then go to static. Finally I lost my temper and punched it when it wouldn't work, so now I have to replace it. When installing the aftermarket to the original wiring harness, is the factory amp in the harness, or is it something you have to wire seperatly? I'm hoping I can just hook up a wiring harness to the new unit and pop it in. Godzilla.vs.Jeep 12-30-2004, 05:56 PM taxman9 - sorry, gonna have to pull out the wallet for this one from everything I've seen.... jdennis - as far as I could tell when installing my new deck today, as long as you wire correctly it should be routed through the amp, just make sure you connect the 'amp relay control power lead' (should be a blue wire) and everything is sounding great (including the panel tweeters, so it must work, otherwise theze guys shouldn't work...) I'd recommend getting the dash kit and wiring harness (with labeled wires!! :grinyes: )to make it easy. I got mine here -- http://www.cardomain.com --cheap/quick and worked like a charm for me. (should be the Scosche CR01 harness, Scosche CJ1279 Installation kit, but double check for your application) Wiring help - http://www.installdr.com/ Drop me a PM if I can be of help.... :lol2: vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
