I'm going to replace the steering wheel on my 94 gcl, mines just too dry and cracked. any tips for me?
As long as I have the battery disconnected I shouldn't have to worry about the airbag correct?????

Disconnect and tape the negative battery cable to prevent accidental activation.

Wait 10 minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before you mess with it.

No garrantees that it won't go off when you hook it back up again if things arn't back together right.

Oh--- avoid static electricity when handling the air bag.

better yet - GET A MANUAL

Dont hold it in front of your Face. They have been known to go off on occasion!

You're a braver man than I....I'd never toy with replacing a steering wheel with an airbag unless I made sure the airbag computer was totally disconnected. And there's still no guarantee that it won't launch when you hook the computer back up. I'd consider this a dealer item, just to play it safe. Maybe even a body shop...

Don't forget about multi-function switches, located on the leftside of the steering column, which is incorporated with turn signal, headlight dimmer, and wiper/washer functions. The airbag is armed and can deploy anytime the battery is disconnected. Disconnect the NEGATIVE cable. Also follow JDPascal's instructions, although 10 minutes maybe excessive. And if you're still unsure about procedures, ChadEbert may have the best solution. The cheapest way to resolve all of this is buy a steering wheell cover...... Good Luck
