I'm thinking of painting some of my interior parts silver. Has anybody done this? I dont want the paint to be chipping off in a month, so does anybody have any suggestions on how to properly do this?

Just use some Krylon paint thats made for plastics. Thats what I did. I did these over 2 years ago and they still look new:

I did but I am going to stripe it all off. I don't want anything flashy on my car anymore. I am going with the Sleeper style from now on. Plus I don't want to get my car stolen anyways. I Did not use Krylon but even if I did I do not want painted trim it is to flashy for me.

i used an airbrush because i got some kickass white pearl paint made for airbrushes and you get less spraymarks.

here's what i did...

CLEANED
SPRAYED BASE COAT OF WHITE
SPRAYED PEARL WHITE PAINT
SPRAYED CLEAR COAT (make sure they're both the same type -- water based or oil based... one or the other, or it will eat the other paint.)

and damn... it gives me a boner when i turn on my indiglos! the blue reflects everywhere

i did mine with spray paint. dont know if it was krylon or not but it was for plastics. i looks like the white interior above but i'm sure his is nicer. just sand your pieces down to make them smooth and prime them about 3-4 times. i probably used 5-6 light coats on my pieces, its hard to cover up the black in some places. it came out pretty good, dont know about cleaning them though, if armor all works or if you need soap and water.

I want that peice that goes behing the steering wheel that houses the controls. That looks soo incredibly tight. How much was it and where did you get it. I would pay anything to have it. And coupled with the bevel and indiglos and spray. incredible!!!

are you talking about the carbon fiber? if so, its sold as a kit. does that part of the dash, around the shifter, door controls (window up and down etc) and usually $150 - $200. i didn't quite understand your post but thanks for the love. i tryed hard to make it look good.

i'll try and take some updated interior pics soon. got a new shiftknob, shift boot, console, armrest, and guages & pod

i have a 95 civic too! and i wanna paint it like yours!

the single vents just pull out. the right side one is a little hard though. the instrument console is fairly easy. 3 screws. 2 about the guages and one hidden under the hazard button. unscrew and pull from the thin bottom part to get the tabs over the dash piece.

In the pic in the first link, to paint my interior stuff, I simply first sprayed down the pieces to be paint, with Bulldog brand aheision promoter (you can get that from Pep Boys), I sprayed it down twice, first time, let it dry, then one more time. Once the 2nd coat was dry, I then sprayed the pieces with Krylon #1401 "Bright Silver" spray paint. that stuff is VERY durable, and after over a ½ a year, and in the HOT So. Cali heat, I haven't had a single problem with any of it chipping. I'd say maybe put about 3-4 coats of the Krylon on it. Wait until the paint is COMPLETELY dry (like a few HOURS at least) and then spray on a couple thickish coats of Krylon #1301 clear coat for added protection if you so choose to. I didn't spray mine with the clear coat, but I may touch them up in the future though. To give you an idea how well this paint holds up, I sprayed my stock black side skirts with it about a year ago, and through weather, and LOTS of road debris, they haven't chipped a single bit, only right under the door where I once accidentally nailed it with the heel of some boots I was wearing. Otherwise I've never had to touch them up, and they still even a year later look like they are the OEM pre-painted skirts. How crazy is that? what do people think of highlighting in yellow? i've got a 95, and i want to do all the vents, the speaker grills and around the cd player. i've already got yellow seat covers (hopefully someday racing seats) and i'm getting other parts (shift knob, ect). the exterior is black. what does everyone think of yellow, and should i highlight anything else?

I have a 97, how do you get the vents out? Not just the ones on the front of the dash by the doors, but also the little ones on top of the dash near the windsheild. I'v tryed removing screws but nothing budges. Do you just yank them out? Why doesn't anyone paint the center console? Does it come out?

i don't know about on 97's but on 95's the little bents just pull out with a little wiggling.

I have a question for you...
all you do is just pull them out. they are not secured by any screws or anything, just one of those clip things like under the dash, and i painted my center console and it turned out fine. i'll have to take a new pic and post it on here soon. the thing is you have to disconnect your stereo in order to take the center piece out and that can be somewhat of a pain, but after that its fairly easy to do.

One guy around here (and damnit i forget his name, maybe he was a PH'er) had his Yellow DX done in ALL tellow, with Black and White accents inside. unfortunately, i dont know how to post pics here on the site, but if you email me (Auke1@hotmail.com), or hit me up on AIM (Auke5) i can send you all the pics of his car that I saved, and you can decide if ya like it. I personally think it looks okay...I wouldnt do it to my own car, but i think it looks decent.

my color civic is BG-29p Aztec Green, i was wondering if the Dupli-color or whatever import color spray will work on spray painting the interior plastics. Because paint made for that type of plastic will not match my car at all. Please give me some techniques>>>>

back from the dead wow that is an old thread. not sure on if it will work or not because the duplicolor is exterior paint not interior however it did use it to paint my eyebrows on my civic and the paint hasn't chipped yet and the eyebrows are abs plastic i believe.

I used Dupli-color on exterior and it worked great! but when i used it on interior piece, the paint won't stick to the plastic piece... so i had to get another brand from pep boy and respray it and it 's fine now.

I used Plasti-Kote paint. I would suggest you sand the surface before you paint too.:)

Since i can never find plastic paint for my color of choice i took craft paint and then going to cealr coat it. I will take pics when i get a chance!;)
