How do I remove the rear deck on my 97 EX coupe?mauibound 02-15-2002, 10:40 AM Putting new 6x9s in today... Thanks Swonder67 02-15-2002, 11:50 AM you gotta take off most of the panels behind the front seats to get the rear deck out. mauibound 02-15-2002, 12:21 PM Do you know of any DIY sites that will help me with this- or do you think that it is self explanitory. Ebranste 02-15-2002, 12:45 PM Believe it it not, this job is a pain to do, but you can do it yourself. To remove the rear deck, you have to remove the 2 sidepanels However to remove the sidepanels, you have to remove the rear seat because the lower portion of the side panels have a small lip that goes under the seat. It sounds not too complicated but when I took mine out, it was so frustrating. Still, after many curse words and sweating 1 gallon of sweat, i guess, I got the rear panel out so I could replace the back speakers. Then, 2 months later, one of my 6X9's popped and had to do it all over again. It was equally a pain the 2nd time around, so I never put the rear deck back in. that was 2 years ago. I hope its legal not to have the 2rd brake light in FL. I've been pulled over for speeding a couple times since then, but no cops have mentioned it to me yet. mauibound 02-15-2002, 12:48 PM Thanks for the advise. I think that today I will take a look at it and decide if I want to go to all that trouble. Sounds to me like it may be worth the $50 to have somebody else do it... Ebranste 02-15-2002, 12:55 PM Well, if you like working on your car yourself, the nmake sure you ask the guys not to put it back in. another thing you can do it to cut the sides of the deck down so the side panels to not overlap it and it can be removed quickly and easily. j.fuggi 02-15-2002, 12:56 PM i dunno if it helps, but in my 95 coupe (i know its different) you just remove the covers to get the screws out.. then you just pull it out. i dunno, i forget what 97s are like. but it should be fairly similar. Ebranste 02-15-2002, 01:03 PM It's different than the '95. 98civicex 02-15-2002, 03:51 PM 1. take out the back seats 2. disconnect the third brake light from in the trunk. 3. pop out all those little poppers in the deck from underneath in the trunk 4. pop off the side panels 5. remove the outer ring around the key thing on the rear deck 6. pop the rear deck off and take out the 6 x 9's reverse the order to put everything back on. ps. it's a pain but, well worth the $ good luck 98civicex 02-15-2002, 03:55 PM yo xivera, how bought putting this in the FAQ? we had it at PH, and i think it belongs here too. thanx mauibound 02-15-2002, 03:55 PM Do I have to take the seats out, or do I just fold them forward? Thanks white97ex 02-15-2002, 10:54 PM i did mine without taking the side panels off and rear seats out. i bent the side panels in enough to get the deck to go over them. it is risky, as far as breaking some plastic peices. but i managed to pull it off vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
