1994 Grand Cherokee wont startrjharm 10-05-2004, 12:47 AM I could use some major help, I have been having problems with my 94 GC laredo (4.0 liter Inline 6). Background on my car/problems: About two weeks ago my car started giving me trouble when trying to start it. It would crank but wouldn't start right away, at first I thought I just had a bad connection to the battery (loose battery terminals). So I put new battery terminals on, and cleaned the battery posts, but this didn't seem to help. The car will only start if the check engine light turns on and I hear a clicking noise that sounds to be coming from one of the relay switches. The problem has gotten worse and worse so I took it to a local mechanic, but he can't seem to fix it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. oglalaed 12-03-2004, 08:56 PM It looks like no one has come to your rescue. I unfortunately cannot help you actually fix it either, but I can save you some money though. I have replaced the following and have had no change in my predicament. My 94 GC will not start on the first try either. If I turn it off then immediately try to restart, it start immediately. This works almost every time, but I think I wore out my starter doing it that way. I have replaced the following so far CKP sensor, fuel pump, fuel filter, distributer, spark plugs, spark plug wires, starter. The problem still persists, there is another thread a few pages back that I subscribed to because he is taking it to a dealer now. Had already been there once and they replaced something that didn't help. He hasn't replied as of yet, but I also have found another thread that suggested that the coil is getting weak. Then there was something else about a resistor in the passenger side wheel well??? I thought they were going in the wrong direction though with that one. The fuel thing didn't work for me and it was very expensive. Good luck! Dale Aeppli 12-03-2004, 09:47 PM It looks like no one has come to your rescue. Try just turning the key on and waiting about 30-45 seconds this will let fuel pump reprime fuel rail. Then try starting it, if it starts the regulator is bad, and is letting gas return to tank. try this and give a holler at jeepman600@aol.com And i'll tell you what to do Dale :2cents: :2cents: oglalaed 12-30-2004, 02:10 AM I tried waiting as prescribed and it doesn't make any difference. The problem has actually gotten a little worse. I have recently replaced the spark plugs and I may have created a problem in the process that is making it even harder to start. I am going to clean out my idle control valve and then will probably replace my coil next. Also, I can hear my fuel pump start up when I turn the key to run, it does stop after a few seconds, but when I continue to turn the key to start, I can hear it start working while it tries to start. i assume this is the normal operation for that part. Good luck to you. Cam7 12-30-2004, 05:08 AM Iwould start by checking the relays and see if any have corrision built up on them. Try switching them the fuel pump relay with another of the same amp. Also check the fuel pressure to see if you are getting the right amount around 49lbs. You also stated that the check engine light doesnt always come on. Ihad this problem on A GM that happened to have a short in the wirrinrg harness. Might check the wirring on the Injector Harness and going in to thr PCM. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
