Hi, I am looking at a 2000 avalon xls fully loaded. It appears to be in great condition, but it has 174,000 miles. the asking price for this off lease car is 5,000. anyone have any comments? do you think it is worth the price? I currently have a 1989 cressida with 134,000 and am looking to move up to a more current year.

You need to do a carfax on that car before you do anything, that includes posting an obsured question like you just did on here. Common sense should tell you no, 174,000 on any car that is four years old is out of the question. Some tractor trailors don't do that many miles in four years. And I know I work in the industry.

For the record, I drive my 99 Avalon a minimum of 40k miles a year, and that's actively TRYING to not drive more. As long as the car is well-maintained, and both aesthetically and mechanically worth the money being asked for it, the value judgement comes from comparing the asking price to similar local offerings. I'd definitely have it checked; you never know how a car's been treated.
